I grew up with O305s before the Superbus dynasty... Missed the 133 O305 with crashed into the bus berth I remember... because I was there... and not forgetting a stupid 261 driver who drove the O405 AC straight forward and crashed into the rubbish collection ctr at Blk 343...Originally posted by The_Bus_Guide:The Mercedes-Benz O305 is my all-time favourite bus. It was developed from a single-deck bus design of the same series. That explains its length, which was more suitable for a single-deck rather than a double deck. Don't be surprised if you see an O305 single-deck running around in Australia or Germany. Unlike the Leyland Atlanteans and Olympians, its engine was horizontally mounted and located under the floorboard. Apart from being the longest double-decker in its time, it also had the highest passenger capacity; 109.
The very first O305 demonstrator came in 1982; SBS 5500 S with a Willowbrooke body. Another demonstrator; SBS 5541 Z was fitted with an Alexander R body. And the 200 units which came in 1984 - 1987 were of the same bodywork with some modifications. The O305 were fully withdrawn by the end of 2000. They were put up for sale but there were no buyers as far as I know.
