Now 8x are Sengkang/Punggol services except 81 as 81's route dates back a long long wat. I think i dont understand is although 88 passes by Sengkang instead of terminating there, why SBST chose 88 as the service number?Originally posted by Yusry:In the olden days,
80/81: Tampines Road Upper Changi Road
82/83: Punggol Road End
84: Upper Serangoon Road End
85: Upper Serangoon Road 10.8km (current Hougang South)
86: Tampines Way (current Hougang Ave 2)
So we could say 8x series were North-East buses as they are now.
88 was introduced in 1x February 1999... sometime near Chinese New Year... and to celebrate SBS introduced this svc... =)Originally posted by service_238:Now 8x are Sengkang/Punggol services except 81 as 81's route dates back a long long wat. Pardon me, i thought 17x belonged to the NorthWest. Now belongs to the west-Jurong,Boon LayOriginally posted by freakybuses:Yishun trunk has no 86x
-SBS has a numbering system in the past. 14x and 15x belong to TPH, 13x and 16x to AMK, 12x to St Michael's, 5x to Bishan, 17x originally for Woodlands until handover in 1980s
I know 153 went from TPY - Upp S'goon Rd, 154 from TPY - Jurong Ter I think.Originally posted by Yusry:I believe 154 used to terminate at Toa Payoh.
Anyway back in 1972, 154 entered Toa Payoh via Upper Aljunied Road, Serangoon Road and Braddell Road. It then cuts through TP Estate and exits via Jalan Toa Payoh and continues via the normal route.
Unless I have a mistaken impression of you have written, in 1972, 153 was TP - Jalan Bukit Merah and 154 was already MacPherson - International Road.Originally posted by SBS9818A:I know 153 went from TPY - Upp S'goon Rd, 154 from TPY - Jurong Ter I think.
When were the Jurong industrial services introduced?Originally posted by Yusry:Unless I have a mistaken impression of you have written, in 1972, 153 was TP - Jalan Bukit Merah and 154 was already MacPherson - International Road.
There was no Jurong terminal back then. Jurong buses parked all over Jurong Industrial estate.
I believe between 1977 (no JIS) and 1979 (got JIS).Originally posted by tranquilice:When were the Jurong industrial services introduced?
Yes, all 10x services belong to S'goon, eg Sv. 103 in the past, which went to Serangoon Gdns Circus.Originally posted by iveco:Can we safely say that the home ground of the 100 series is in Serangoon Interchange? Almost all of them start from that area.
Boon Lay also has the most number of 19x services.
The Jurong Bus Interchange was built during this time and all the services which terminated at various locations in Jurong Industrial Estate were brought together. The JIS services were then introduced as connections to the various residential & industrial estates in Jurong. Services at Jurong Inter as at 1980:Originally posted by Yusry:I believe between 1977 (no JIS) and 1979 (got JIS).
I don't have 1978 bus guide to confirm.
Did 242 really exist back then and did it loop at Jurong West St 92 as it currently does?Originally posted by The_Bus_Guide:The Jurong Bus Interchange was built during this time and all the services which terminated at various locations in Jurong Industrial Estate were brought together. 98, 188, 187, 252, 254, 852 and 951 joined the foray later.
yes, but sadly the Central Library building has closed and there is no idea when we could access the closed stacks again.Originally posted by Yusry:I have no idea. I have yet to find bus guides prior to 1972. I remember ^tamago^ mentioning that he found some 1950's and 1960's bus directories in NRL Closed Stacks.
Yes, I guess it looped at Kang Ching Rd.Originally posted by Yusry:The bus that looped at your area was 188, which appeared later than 1980.
242 was a Corporation Road estate service. Looped probably somewhere near Chinese/Japanese Garden. (Kang Ching Road??)
I just checked with my bus guides. Yep, I rememembered correctly. It looped at Kang Ching Road. Guarantee plus chop.Originally posted by tranquilice:Yes, I guess it looped at Kang Ching Rd.
to follow up my own post, I find that 131 and 139 are both wierd as they don't serve AMK... I thought 13x are for AMK???Originally posted by freakybuses:Any wierd and interesting numbers that any public bus company used last time?
130 and 131 started off at Balestier Road services.Originally posted by freakybuses:to follow up my own post, I find that 131 and 139 are both wierd as they don't serve AMK... I thought 13x are for AMK???
It did exist back then but it was not the same as today's route. The old 242 was withdrawn around 1987 while the present 242 was introduced in 1990, when Boon Lay Bus Interchange was opened.Originally posted by iveco:Did 242 really exist back then and did it loop at Jurong West St 92 as it currently does?
It was Ulu Pandan - Shenton Way via Tanglin Road, Tiong Bahru Road, Cantonment Road.Originally posted by iveco:How was 188 like in the past? If I'm not wrong, it served Upp Bt Timah and Holland Rds.
