Hmm, isn't the current Fantasy Island a coach park now?Originally posted by freakybuses:Now Sentosa wasn't as fun as it was in 1990s... whereby got fantasy island... missed that so much. Last went there was 2001 for a 3D2N camp... the place become campsite... with AC dorms.
Went there yesterday, but not to Fort Siloso. The road leading to Fort Siloso is accessible, but used as a roadside car park.Originally posted by service_238:The road leading to FS is accessible.. while the entire station is closed... the toilet at FS is accessible too![]()
I think I saw a car park when I passed by there yesterday.Originally posted by SBS9818A:Hmm, isn't the current Fantasy Island a coach park now?
It's a very large car and coach park.Originally posted by tranquilice:I think I saw a car park when I passed by there yesterday.
The coach park with shelter? It is near the roundabout and was already there when fantasy island existed.Originally posted by SBS9818A:It's a very large car and coach park.
Long before the CCL route and stations were finalised, the CCL section between Buona Vista and World Trade Centre (now HarbourFront) was proposed as an LRT line. This LRT line actually plies from Buona Vista MRT down to Pasir Panjang, Telok Blangah and WTC, before terminating at Sentosa.Originally posted by disappear:why they don't just be bold enough to just extend the NEL or CCL from Harbourfront one more stop to reach sentosa?and don't take away the monorail but just improve it? this is the best way to get people go there..
Ya,And many bus services will either face the cut or reroute to other areas.Originally posted by disappear:they could have extended the mrt line to reach sentosa... but if so, the journey would be underground so passengers/tourists won't be able to see the scenary while travelling across the sea....
is it possible the sentosa lrt line continue northward to link to tiong bahru station, then join great world city, finally stop at orchard.?it can stop outside mount faber....sorry, dreaming again....
For info, the monorail plied the reverse direction from start of operation till sometime in the early 1990s.Originally posted by disappear:If the monorail was built two directional, perhaps they wouldn't be thinking of tearing it down...since it is only one direction, once you miss a stop, have to go one whole round again, or walk back, or take a bus. perhaps, the purpose of monorail wasn't for people to get to another stop quickly, but for people to sightseeing and see beautiful scenary while the train moves slowly.
the lrt will certainly be fast, but the route is straight, stopping only at what they deem as strategic locations and does not loop around the island. it seems that its major purpose is just to link the main land to sentosa across gateway avenue. this is fine if the bus services serving around the island are frequent, reasonably fast and not crowded and sqeezy. however, i guess that most would rather take a train on elevated tracks to see scenary around the island from a certain height rather than take a bus which stops at traffic lights and bus stops.. in this respect, the sentosa express lrt seems to be lacking..

in any case, there is only one track and passengers have to make do with only one direction at any one time.. if it were in 2 directions, it would have been more useful..?Originally posted by tranquilice:For info, the monorail plied the reverse direction from start of operation till sometime in the early 1990s.
(Referring to the sentence in red fonts) Are there traffic lights in Sentosa?![]()
Yes. Two directional is more convenient.Originally posted by disappear:in any case, there is only one track and passengers have to make do with only one direction at any one time.. if it were in 2 directions, it would have been more useful..?
No, it's the coach park next to Cinemania. It's unpaved.Originally posted by tranquilice:The coach park with shelter? It is near the roundabout and was already there when fantasy island existed.
New coach park? When was it bulit?Originally posted by SBS9818A:No, it's the coach park next to Cinemania. It's unpaved.
cnt remember exactly. was about the same time they aqquired the new buses.Originally posted by tranquilice:New coach park? When was it bulit?
I think the monorail service would be discontinued immediately after Sentosa LRT is open.Originally posted by disappear:It would be a nice sight if the lrt can coexist with the monorail....
also, the lrt can to a limited extent help one to go backward if he overshoots a monorail station, since the monorail can only go in one direction, but the lrt both directions..... even though the monorail stations are nowhere near the lrt stations except for the one at ferry terminal, there will be more choices especially if one is in between a lrt station and a monorail station.... also, some parts of the monorail track cuts through grass land (i.e. not along roads) so buses rides cannot have the same experience...
i realise that the future merlion lrt station is conveniently near the monorail track. why don't they built a new monorail station in between M4 and M5, to make it like a interchange with the lrt? then one can go backward to ferry terminal station while travelling halfway thru the monorail (not to mention going straight back to harbourfront!), one can also use the lrt to get to merlion before taking the second half of the monorail journey...
i guess that a monorail station isn't as difficult to built compare to lrt, and it is single track somemore?
hope they at least keep the monorail running for certain period after the lrt begins. try see how first, before destroying the monorail track.

The LRT is scheduled to complete by April 2006, while the monorail is scheduled to be dismantled by 2005. If this is true, expect more crowding on internal buses.Originally posted by SBS9818A:Hmm, when will the LRT be completed? Would there be a time lapse in operation commencement and end?
Hmm. Looks like more internal services might have to be introduce or frequencies beefed up.Originally posted by tranquilice:The LRT is scheduled to complete by April 2006, while the monorail is scheduled to be dismantled by 2005. If this is true, expect more crowding on internal buses.
The latter is more possible. 4 internal bus service routes are enough, in my opinion.Originally posted by SBS9818A:Hmm. Looks like more internal services might have to be introduce or frequencies beefed up.
Would love to ride a speeding B7RLE.Originally posted by tranquilice:The latter is more possible. 4 internal bus service routes are enough, in my opinion.
However that's not possible on Sentosa, considering the narrow roads there, esp the winding Siloso Rd.Originally posted by SBS9818A:Would love to ride a speeding B7RLE.![]()
