Hi,
For further information & discussion on double decker articulated coaches visit my Yahoo group at:
http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/jumbocruiserand my website at:
http://jumbocruiser.mysite.freeserve.com/It seems that 12 double decker artics have been made, and many high floor single deckers (van hool, Neoplan etc.) see the group photos.
I believe that Neoplan made 10 double decker artics with 3 axles and the engine/driven axle in the first part and a single axle trailer.
in the early 90's Neoplan and Berkhof each made a double decker artic again with 4 axles but 2 of which were in the trailer, the engine and driven axles were also in the trailer.
the Berkhof Excelence 2000HDA was not a success and was modified into a rigit 3 axle coach, and the Neoplan rolled (due to driver error apparently) when it was just a year old, it is now being repaired, see www.jumbocruiser.com.
8 of the 10 original Jumbocruisers have survived, the 7th was burned out in '85 and the 9th hit a railway bridge in '93.
I have found many photos, at least one of each vehicle ( join the group to see them!)
one of the jumbocruisers was built for Japan and is the only RHD example and is one of just three that still are still seated, the others have been converted for various uses, Except for the "Car-o-tel" that was built as a mobile hotel and is in the USA.
Please share any other information & photos that you have with the Jumbocruiser group.
