The original door cock is supposed to work.Originally posted by off_service:TIB 1242 U has an additional button fitted above the original door open button outside the bus at the entrance. The original button is covered by a piece of filmsy plastic (as it seems). The new button is enclosed by a rectangular plastic bracket (similar to those emergency buttons inside the bus, above the doors).
I suspect this button is to open the door electronically. Currently service captains open the doors by pushing them.
Yes I know. But the original one is "powerless". I think many service captains complained about pushing doors and that's why TIBS added the button?Originally posted by SBS9818A:The original door cock is supposed to work.
If I'm not wrong the door cock should be linked to the battery, which will be linked to the air bellow, providing sufficient air for the door to open.Originally posted by off_service:Yes I know. Can anyone clarify this?
The door will open a little only, something similar to unlocking of door only.Originally posted by SBS9818A:If I'm not wrong the door cock should be linked to the battery, which will be linked to the air bellow, providing sufficient air for the door to open.
Shouldn't be the case. SBST door cocks work fine.Originally posted by off_service:The door will open a little only, something similar to unlocking of door only.
btw, what svc was it on when u took it?Originally posted by off_service:TIB 1242 U has an additional button fitted above the original door open button outside the bus at the entrance. What I'm saying is for TIBS, SBST buses have their doors open electronically automatically.Originally posted by SBS9818A:Shouldn't be the case. SBST door cocks work fine.
Hmm...i think the Hispano 0405s of TIBS also open automatically?Originally posted by off_service:What I'm saying is for TIBS, SBST buses have their doors open electronically automatically.
Oh I meant the newer buses here, Volgrens, Habits, "Citaro" etc. About the UK Lances, I think the doors "snap" open is because the drivers pressed the door open button.Originally posted by TIB1186Z:Hmm...i think the Hispano 0405s of TIBS also open automatically?
I know that the UK Lances doors are 100% powerless. I observed drivers closing the door manually when leaving the bus and then pushing it open when entering the bus. The doors actually snap open fully the moment the ignition is turned.
It is powerless because there is insufficient air pressure.Originally posted by TIB1186Z:Hmm...i think the Hispano 0405s of TIBS also open automatically?

All the new buses introduced after the box bendies (excluding the UMW Lances) need to have their doors opened manually. If is designed like this and is not due to insufficient air pressure IMO.Originally posted by SBS9818A:It is powerless because there is insufficient air pressure.
Then it's illogical. These devices are meant to assist drivers. I suspect TIBS might have tampered with this system.Originally posted by off_service:All the new buses introduced after the box bendies (excluding the UMW Lances) need to have their doors opened manually. I agree with you.Originally posted by SBS9818A:Then it's illogical. These devices are meant to assist drivers. I suspect TIBS might have tampered with this system.
Air also want to save. Unlikely passengers would complain as nothing has been done to SBST doors.Originally posted by TIB1186Z:I agree with you.
I noticed that the doors on these buses open slower than usual, and this might a response to pax complaining of the doors closing too fast with a bang. ( especially for the boxes psssssssssst..bang!)
Perhaps the air pressure is decreased or a less sensitive system had been put in place.
Notice that the branded Deans Powered doors found on many of the SBST buses and TIBS' DAF SB220s dun have this problem. Thus, im inclined to think that the trade off is made cos of the cost savings.
I think it would be a safety feature during emergency. It would be bad if the bus has no power to open the doors during emergency. So pressing the button and opening the door manually may save lives.Originally posted by SBS9818A:Air also want to save. Unlikely passengers would complain as nothing has been done to SBST doors.

That's why loh. Apparently they expect pax to use a substantial amount of force to open the door if there is fire or the bus flips, when that energy can be expended on running away as fast as possible.Originally posted by off_service:I think it would be a safety feature during emergency. The doors can open easily. I believe you have tried it at Woodlands Depot. Also you never see drivers pushing the doors open with their might.Originally posted by SBS9818A:That's why loh. Yah true, for the newer doors. But its kind of hard work pushing open the door of a box....cos of the very strong magnets behind. Perhaps that's why they have working door openers, as they have to depend on these "mk1" door-stay close devices.Originally posted by off_service:The doors can open easily. Even if that is the case, the door cocks are supposed to work. I stand by my theory those air compressors have been modified to save wear and tear, and in turn, cost.Originally posted by off_service:The doors can open easily.
