Another old Jurong Rd? Where was this old jurong rd located and what is the name of the road now? btw, when did AMK Ter started operations? Did all AMK buses terminate at Sembawang Hills Circus before shifting to AMK Ter?Originally posted by Yusry:Old Jurong Road (near Jalan Boon Lay)
165 (Upp Thomson Road - Sembawang Hills Circus), 198 (Sims Pl)
um...i still think 20x did not ALL serve jurong. i only got 1980 guide..so cnat say anyhting further..but if that is so then a major rationalisation of 20x services had taken place in the late seventiesOriginally posted by Yusry:Taken from 1977 bus guide - long before we were born.
You can take this "Old Jurong Road" as being along Jurong West Avenue 2 (former PIE) near Jalan Bahar.Originally posted by freakybuses:Another old Jurong Rd? Hmm, I thought it's Jurong Rd? For info, there's also Old Upper Jurong Rd. (see 1988 street directory or earlier)Originally posted by Yusry:You can take this "Old Jurong Road" as being along Jurong West Avenue 2 (former PIE) near Jalan Bahar.
Not all AMK buses terminate at Sembawang Hills Circus. Most did not exist. 169 stopped at Dieppe Barracks (opposite Khatib Camp).
166 and 168 operated in AMK in 1977.
the present old jurong road is in between bukit batok east ave 6 and upper bukit timah. how come it used to be at present jurong west ave 2? is the road being split after the development of bukit batok new town?Originally posted by Yusry:You can take this "Old Jurong Road" as being along Jurong West Avenue 2 (former PIE) near Jalan Bahar.

Spot on. The old jurong road runs past the Nanyang University Arch, along Jurong West Ave 2, the current Jurong Rd, just beside the PIE after that and gradually up towards Bt Batok East Ave 6 and the current Old Jurong Rd.Originally posted by thots:the present old jurong road is in between bukit batok east ave 6 and upper bukit timah. how come it used to be at present jurong west ave 2? is the road being split after the development of bukit batok new town?
Old Jurong Road os 1977 is not the same as Old Jurong Road of 2004.Originally posted by thots:the present old jurong road is in between bukit batok east ave 6 and upper bukit timah. how come it used to be at present jurong west ave 2? is the road being split after the development of bukit batok new town?
I didn't know there's another road running paraell to present Jurong Rd in 1977. Is this Old Jurong Rd renamed Old Upp Jurong Rd later? (I saw Old Upp Jurong Rd near Jln Boon Lay in 1988 street directory)Originally posted by Yusry:Old Jurong Road os 1977 is not the same as Old Jurong Road of 2004.
Old Jurong Road of 2004 is part of Jurong Road of 1977.
Old Jurong Road of 1977 is an old road running about parallel to Jurong Road of 1977 around Jurong West Avenue 2 of 2004.
Correct, the road was split. Along the old stretch of PIE that has since been converted to Jurong West Ave 2, one can see the old Old Jurong Rd parallel to it, with old yellow bus stops intact, but covered with undergrowth.Originally posted by thots:the present old jurong road is in between bukit batok east ave 6 and upper bukit timah. how come it used to be at present jurong west ave 2? is the road being split after the development of bukit batok new town?
Unfortunately, there is no reference to Old Jurong Road in the 1975 and 1981 street directories.Originally posted by tranquilice:I didn't know there's another road running paraell to present Jurong Rd in 1977. Agreed, super confusing. That means, in 1972, beside Jurong Rd (present Jurong West Ave 2), there's also another road paraell to this road.Originally posted by Yusry:Unfortunately, there is no reference to Old Jurong Road in the 1975 and 1981 street directories.
Anyway, in the 1972 street directory, Jurong West Avenue 2 (former PIE) was known as Jurong Road.
The Jurong Road (parallel to current Jurong West Avenue 2) found in 1988 street directory is un-named in 1972. This, I assume was Old Jurong Road. (Renamed to Jurong Road in 1988 when 1972 Jurong Road was renamed PIE.
I know it's super confusing, so I will try to scan the map for you.
Summary: Old Jurong Road of 1972 and 1975 (and probably 1977) is probably 1988 Jurong Road.
Yes and that road is the Jurong Road of 1988.Originally posted by tranquilice:Agreed, super confusing. That means, in 1972, beside Jurong Rd (present Jurong West Ave 2), there's also another road paraell to this road.
I beg to differ.Originally posted by The_Bus_Guide:Jurong Rd did not become a part of the PIE (except for one tiny portion near Jln Boon Lay). The PIE was built parellel to it. Jurong West Ave 2 was formerly a part of the PIE. Jurong Rd was cut short to Hong Kah Flyover during the PIE extension. The disused portion will eventually disappear with the future development of Jurong West N2.
easier to compare now. I found out that there are hidden tracks and roads ceased to exist. Eg: Hong Kah Lane/Dr, Sing Nan Rd, Kian Hong Rd and the odd number tracks.Originally posted by Yusry:I beg to differ.
Here are scans from the 1975 and 1988 street directories for your reference.
