SBS 9816 E, SBS 9818 A, or SBS 9819 Y?
Good question. Here's an answer which might be possible..Originally posted by leeJZ:A little off topic, but on the topic of Sv 56...
Why doesnt it loop at Marina Centre like all other SBS services (except Sv 195 but it has to terminate there)? Its route is quite short, only about 20 fare stages, while others like Sv 162 or Sv 97 are much longer.
It's more to do with nostalgia. Don't forget Sv. 77 used to be a SBST service too. Sv. 58 was actually the first to terminate at Marina Center Ter. When Sv. 58 got withdrawn and Sv. 56 extended, Sv. 56 took its place.Originally posted by service_238:Good question. Here's an answer which might be possible..
Nostalgia - zyx style
and also 195 needs a partner at MRC.To date if i'm not wrong 56 is the first SBS service or first bus service that terminates there.
So in the end its nostalgia
Includes services 75 and 171.Originally posted by SBS9818A:It's more to do with nostalgia. Don't forget Sv. 77 used to be a SBST service too. Sv. 58 was actually the first to terminate at Marina Center Ter. When Sv. 58 got withdrawn and Sv. 56 extended, Sv. 56 took its place.
56 is 14 stages long. last time it was shorter, from Toa Payoh to Bishan (Courtesy ZYX)Originally posted by leeJZ:A little off topic, but on the topic of Sv 56...

Almost all buses will have this problem at one time or another. VSOs are not the only buses having this problem.Originally posted by Scania:These are a model Volvo B10TL, also known as Volvo Super Olympian (VSO), they have the dissel smell for dunno some reason

Marina Centre - Farrer Rd, looping outside at Khaem Hock Rd junction with Bt Timah/Dunearn Rd.Originally posted by freakybuses:btw, what was 77's route before extending to Bt Batok?
I would like to confirm whether service 186 loop at Farrer Rd before?Originally posted by service_238:Marina Centre - Farrer Rd, looping outside at Khaem Hock Rd junction with Bt Timah/Dunearn Rd.
It was introduced in 1995, extended a year later.
yes the same way. That was stated in 1993 TL Guide. St Mikes was found in 1995 guide. Which means it was amended in 1993/1994.Originally posted by tranquilice:I would like to confirm whether service 186 loop at Farrer Rd before?
If I remember correctly, service 186 used to ply Shenton Way - Farrer Rd before terminating at St Michael's.
Let me add in the blanks for 1994 for you since I have the 1994 TL Guide. Yes, in the 1994 TL Guide, it is stated that 186 runs from Shenton Way to St Michael's.Originally posted by service_238:yes the same way. That was stated in 1993 TL Guide. I remember boarding a Trident and a Habit which had similiar smell too!Originally posted by off_service:Almost all buses will have this problem at one time or another. VSOs are not the only buses having this problem.
LOs also have this smell...all of them that I've taken...Originally posted by BlessingSatan:I remember boarding a Trident and a Habit which had similiar smell too!
Hmm, similar to Sv. 186! The deleted sector is now covered by Sv. 156, correct?Originally posted by service_238:Marina Centre - Farrer Rd, looping outside at Khaem Hock Rd junction with Bt Timah/Dunearn Rd.

Service 174, between Farrer Rd and Bras Basah Rd/Stamford Rd.Originally posted by SBS9818A:Hmm, similar to Sv. 186! The deleted sector is now covered by Sv. 156, correct?
I don't get your first point. You mean Sv. 174 duplicated Sv. 77 route, correct?Originally posted by tranquilice:Service 174, between Farrer Rd and Bras Basah Rd/Stamford Rd.
For info, service 186 was introduced when service 185 (now service 985) was shortened from Shenton Way to Jln Anak Bt in 1992. The current service 186 route between Shenton Way and Farrer Rd is the former service 185 route.
Yes, when service 77 was plying Marina Centre - Farrer Rd, it duplicated service 174 between Farrer Rd and Bras Basah Rd/Stamford Rd. To remove parts of the duplication, service 77 skipped Farrer Rd when it was extended to Bt Batok.Originally posted by SBS9818A:I don't get your first point.
