NSL Disruption from Newton to Toa Payoh (Northbound)

heard from fren tat tis was displayed on the Passenger Information System (PIS) at the stations. trying to get more info on tis.

Me got stuck on 2096 (Kawasaki) tonight
First I was at Raffles Place Station when the train took 15 mins to come, TV showed Jurong East everything seemed normal
Then at the last 2 min, the TV changes to Newton (10:09pm)
Then boarded the Train, along the way the motorman (Malay) kept saying Dear Passengers, For your Info, this train will be ending at Newton Station, please wait for station annocments at Newton Station, Thank you.
Then between Orchard and Newton, the train stopped for about 20 mins (Stopped at 10:20pm), everyone started panicking and started calling/SMSing their friends/relatives. Some annocements were made to tell passengers what to do after alighting from the train at Newton.
Then the train started moving slowly towards Newton, I alighted from the train but the annocments cannot be heared clearly as it was too crowded and too noisy.(10:40)
Outside the station (10:45 when I was outside), passengers waited for their own bus back to their home not knowing that there was a free shuttle service to TPY by TIBS, saw a crowded 972C (The SMRT Volgren Merz) on 700A. All buses were crowded as some passengers changed to bus at Orchard. Finally the shuttle bus came(10:53) (TIB 504X of amdep 171) to TPY the driver did a full loop to Braddell MRT before going to TPY MRT.
At TPY Station, passengers ask those SMRT staff for refund but they say they are busy. (b/w11:00 to 11:10pm)
Finally home sweet home by taking 3668E of 238 (11:12 board) -

doesn't look like a track fault (of crossover). anyone at novena? saw emergency vehicles (like police car, fire engines etc)? no news of it either on tv or web.

nope tat has nothing to do with the mrt line disruption ( i believe). i was jus quoting tamago on y theres so mani police veh on road.

My grandma was stuck at Newton and she called home around 11pm, asking my father to drive down and pick her, without realising that there would be free shuttle. Obviously the announcements were only made in English, which my grandma doesn't understand.

MRT break down
THE North-bound MRT line was disrupted for more than two hours last night due to a technical fault.
A train broke down near Newton MRT station at 9.30pm, said a spokesman from SMRT Corp.
Train services at Newton, Novena and Toa Payoh stations were affected. Services for the north-bound line resumed around midnight

i was taking MRT yesterday nite after de thingy happened.. den it was displayed on de tv in da MRT station.. luckily i din haf to take tt line.. while others were like figuring other routes to get to their destination..
den on my train tt time, it slowed down to a stop in da tunnel.. for bout a few secs.. n we were like "woah....." den luckily de train started moving again.. -
the press release on wat happened can be found on the notice boards in MRT stations.
something like tis happened:
1 trains caused traction power trip at around 9pm shortly after leaving NEW SB platform after power was restored, it was supposed to be sent back to bishan depot via NEW SB-NB crossover but traction power tripped again at NEW NB the faulty train had its traction power trip restored and a train was sent in to couple the faulty train to pull it back to bishan depot. however, traction power tripped again at NOV NB. engineers were then sent in to rectify the recurring traction power problem and it was finally sent back to bishan depot.
train services only resumed at 0001hrs. last NB KRJ train left MRB at 0015 instead of 0006hrs. -
