anyway wat happened to RapidBus scheme? no word on it and it was gone with the wind.
if there is a RapidBus (regular trunk bus svc tat skips bus stops), wat route would u recommmend? or any svcs that u hope could have skipped some bus stops along its route?
i'll start first by recommending a new svc.
Svc 57 (tentative)
Bishan Int, (Bishan St 11, St 13), Bishan Rd, Bishan St 21, (Marymount Lane), Thomson Rd [incl. Sis Of The Poor & MacRitchie Res stops), (Lornie Rd, Adam Rd, Adam Flyover), Farrer Rd [SMSS, Blk 2/6, Mkt/FC only], (Farrer Rd), (Holland Rd), Holland Ave, C'wealth Ave, Nth Buona Vista Rd, Dover Rd, (Clementi Rd), C'wealth Ave West, (Clementi Ave 3) and Clementi Int.
* tis is a route that is supposed to run like Circle Line Stage 3 to link up Bishan & Buona Vista till before it opens. it also provides a link from MacRitchie/Holland to Bishan since i think, imo, that 156's freq is not ideal.
* if SMRTB were to run and SBST doesn't allow it to terminate at Bishan Int, it could jus start the trip from Bishan Rd/MRT and if it can't terminate at Clementi, it could choose Kent Ridge or Buona Vista or at worst, Bt Batok or loop svc.
any ideas or comments? -
Rapidbus has a died a terrible death.
All Rapidbus logos (bus desto, bus stop signs) have all disappeared AFAIK. -

The current service 162 when re-introduced is the SBST version of RapidBus. Skipped selected bus stops along Bishan Rd, Upp Thomson Rd, Thomson Rd and Newton Rd.

Isn't there the RapidBus 700 that runs from bukit panjang to shenton way and RapidBus 700A that runs from bukit panjang to marina centre?

Did RapidBus charge higher fares?

no. it jus skipped bus stops so travel time is minimised. in fact, some junctions which 700 plied even had special transponders that will cause the traffic light to turn red 10 secs later (if it's green) or turn green 10 secs faster (if it's red). but tat's limited to the then-700.Originally posted by leeJZ:Did RapidBus charge higher fares?

btw 57 shud ply Dover Ave instead of Clementi Rd. -
i think it will fail the duplication test of EWL and svc 14, 74 & 166. at least no bus plied Dover Rd <-> (Clementi Rd) <-> C'wealth Ave West. the nearest is svc 196.Originally posted by leeJZ:Why did they stop Rapidbus?

i'm toying with another idea, to let svc 93 skip eunos link to go via outer ring rd by kaki bt ave 4, bedok nth rd, tampines ave 10 then pasir ris or tampines. it could go straight from bartley rd when the full stretch of the flyover is completed. it could connect pasir ris/tampines to bartley stn, bartley rd, braddell rd & toa payoh north. -

Currently, 700 should just operate as a peak hr service to Shenton Way, Marina Center, Orchard, and Bukit Timah parts of its route are all covered by 190 and 960.
1. a case of duplication with svc 190 from bt panjang town to bras basah rd, even if it skipped bus stops.
2. no buses plying along the Whitley Rd - Bt Timah/Dunearn Rd - Newton Rd - Scotts Rd sector then.
3. they may wan to relieve the jam at Stevens Rd during peak hours.
4. link Newton MRT to Bt Panjang MRT in case Orchard Rd jams and impatient commuters who didn't mind paying more can take the MRT and swop down to Raffles Pl. -
Another idea is because they converted to trunk sv as students cannot board 171 aft school. 171 can get "overloaded" bet 1300-1700 and buses arrive late.
"Overloaded" as students from some schools at Bt Timah (Nearer to Turf City) don't bother to move to rear and loiter at the exit
