NEL Rationalisation Phase 2 and merger of services 185 & 989

Come Tuesday 27 July 2004, will be the first anniversary of NEL rationalisation phase 2 and merger of services 185 and 989.
9 services were affected in NEL rationalisation phase 2 on Sunday 27 July 2003.
81: Plied between Tampines interchange and New Bridge Rd terminal. Shortened to ply between Tampines interchange and Serangoon interchange.
85: Plied between Sengkang interchange and HarbourFront interchange. Withdrawn.
97: Plied between Jurong East interchange and Hougang Central interchange. Shortened to ply as a loop service between Jurong East interchange and Marina Centre.
106: Plied between Bukit Batok interchange and Serangoon interchange. Shortened to ply between Bukit Batok interchange and Marina Centre terminal.
111: Plied between Hougang Central interchange and Ghim Moh terminal. Shortened to ply as a loop service between Ghim Moh terminal and Marina Centre.
Express 501: Plied between Sengkang interchange and Robinson Rd/Marina Centre. Withdrawn.
Express 502: Plied between Sengkang interchange and Boon Lay interchange. Shortened to ply as a loop service between Boon Lay interchange and Marina Centre.
Express 511: Plied between Hougang Central interchange and Robinson Rd. Withdrawn.
Express 512: Plied between Hougang Central interchange and Orchard Rd. Withdrawn.
On the same day, services 185 and 989 were merged to become new service 985. This merger angered many service 989 passengers travelling between Choa Chu kang/Bukit Batok and Changi Airport PTB. -
I definately missed the old route of bus 81 as I always rely on this bus service to little India from my home.
Plus services like 85 and 111 in hougang area. -

As their frequency has gone for the worst like 111, 12-15 min (PM Peak) -

Why did they terminate at Penang Rd instead of say Marina Center?
111 demand is now quite low, it doesnt need that many DDs. It should have looped at Sungei Rd / Lavender St / Boon Keng Rd instead of Marina Center.
97 demand is still high during peak hours, but very low during weekends and off peak.
106 demand is still reasonable high, but freq is quite unstable. Perhaps TIBS could have made it do a loop around Little India before terminating at Marina Center. Say Orchard Rd - Prinsep St - Selegie Rd - Sungei Rd - Ophir Rd - Beach Rd - Marina Center instead of going straight into MRC. -

Like Sv 101, they dun need as they can squeeze into 1 plate
