What textbook is that? If I'm not mistaken, the Rail MasterPlan brought about in the early 90's proposed that the Tuas Extension was an LRT line.Originally posted by kuekj:I read from my sec school textbook illustrations that the Boon Lay to Tuas extension might be just a LRT..
That's the future of MRT in Singapore - fully-underground.Originally posted by sBs_boy:Sometimes.. i just HATE taking NEL.. Tunnel all the way.. nothing to see.. BORING....
Sometimes i feel that the NEL would be interesting if can see scenary and have elevate stations where sunlight can be seen......all darkness sometimes i feel that the windows wastedOriginally posted by sBs_boy:Sometimes.. i just HATE taking NEL.. Tunnel all the way.. nothing to see.. BORING....
Really? Since when did SG's electric railways use overhead cables? There was a disagreement with KTM over the electrification of the railway line in SG. Apparently our govt didn't like the idea of overhead cables and preferred an electrical railing parallel to the tracks.Originally posted by disappear:Sometimes i feel that the NEL would be interesting if can see scenary and have elevate stations where sunlight can be seen......all darkness sometimes i feel that the windows wastedhowever since NEL train use overhead cable above, if got viaduct above ground the cable will be seen........
Also, i think the SMRT train 'ding dong' bell chime upon reaching station sounds nicer than NEL's chime.. i wish NEL can use that...![]()
Only NEL use overhead. think is because the whole line is underground, so it's ok?Originally posted by iveco:Really? Since when did SG's electric railways use overhead cables? as u have already mentioned, they r managed by 2 diff companies.Originally posted by disappear:Dhoby Ghaut and Outram Park Stations are called interchange stations, but each interchange seem to be like 2 different stations, one is SMRT 'territory' and their other is SBSTransit 'territory'.
This is ok but the problem is since they are called interchange stations where passengers transfer between 2 lines, how come each 'territory' only shows its own train arrival times on screens? If each side can show the other side train arriving time as well, then passengers can decide to walk faster/slower along the link in order to catch the train at the other side, rather than walk slowly to other side just to realise that NS24 side train just left and have to wait another 7 mins.
is it because the NEL and the NSL/EWL use different systems that's why they cannot show arrival times for the other line on their own screens? but i think that if they really want to do it, they just need to adjust their computer system to accommodate this change.
I wonder if this problem would occur if the NEL belonged to SMRT, then the Interchange would perhaps more be treated like one integrated whole then 2 separate 'territory'....
I think the only acceptable case is when one walks from EWL to NEL at Ourtram Park. The passenger need not walk long b4 seeing the NEL arrival times. But this is not the case when walking from NEL to EWL at the same station. I would think "why so funny pple walking toward EWL, still show NEL train arrival time???!!!??" Another case is when walking from NEL side to NSL side at Dhoby Ghaut, the end of travellator toward NSL side got a screen. Instead of showing the NSL train time, it simply display "to North South Line". Isn't that a waste!
Hee hee...due to some silly mistake make by the maintenance staff.....caused the gearbox faulty.....lan lan no choice but get japanese engineers here to rectify the fault....german counter parts also kana called back...Originally posted by SBS9845X:Are the new Kawasaki black trains ZF gearboxed? Your 1st questions, I cannot answer you.Originally posted by OrneryBoy:In the very beginning, why din all the stations not built underground? and why are the trains moving at 70km/hr which is top speed during peak periods... is that true?![]()
In other words, the fault lies with SMRT's maintenance staff, and not the manufacturer?Originally posted by Manager433:Hee hee...due to some silly mistake make by the maintenance staff.....caused the gearbox faulty.....lan lan no choice but get japanese engineers here to rectify the fault....german counter parts also kana called back...
Hee hee, they fail to detect the fault mah...result in damaged gearbox lah. Aiyo...same like LRT lah. I believed many companies, factories, many many place all like tat. Same as airlines.Originally posted by Superbus:In other words, the fault lies with SMRT's maintenance staff, and not the manufacturer?
Iveco is right. Blame it on those transport operators. There has been much talk about a unified ticketing system but nothing has been done so far.Originally posted by iveco:The NSL/NEL & NEL/EWL interchanges @ Dhoby Ghaut & Outram Park are nothing. Try Masjid Jamek Interchange in KL. You have to exit the PutraLine station altogether to enter the StarLine station as the two lines use different ticketing systems.
Originally posted by mancha:I do NOT agree with what youve said.. i think that the Keep Left rule is very useful.. In Busy stations like City Hall, Raffles Place, Bugis, Orchard etc.. during the peak Hour.. when a particular train arrive at the station.. there can be more than a hundred ppl using the escalator at the same time.. to make things worst.. sometimes, Trains from both direction arrive at the same time.. it can get really Crowded.. So.. when the Keep Left rule is used, it can at least help to speed things up abit... making ppl moving on.. Like what youve said, Teens and young Adults likes to hold Hands and bunch together.. Well.. youve just said.. its just 10 seconds.. they can just let go for that 10 seconds and resume what they do as usual after they have left the escalator... For some people.. time is very important to them.. So.. what IMO, the KEep Left Rule Is better to stay then go...
I feel the Keep Left rule on escalators that are 30 ft long ridiculous. Why keep left for a less than 10 seconds ride. The rule maybe OK for those high escalators at Jurong East and Woodlands MRT Stations but not for the others. We are following the West mindlessly on this.
Singapore 80 miles from the equator, why break into a sweat.
Singapore system is used by the general population, Grannies, maids with children, students, teen groups, who like to hold hands and bunch together.
Keep left rule is imposed by people who returned from the West. The self-centred type. The Others-must-stand-aside-for-me type. These same people do not advocate tipping their trays at MacDonald's and KFC as done in the West, because it require them to to act for others. They want others to act for their benefit. They are not mindful of old people, and children, and groups. They are solitary people. They move as a single digit, and are impatient of people in their way.
Whats so difficult, go up to the escalator, stand on any side, for less than 10 seconds, and its over. Why that also need rule. As if Singapore not enough rules.
