Kallang-Whampoa also has no proper bus interchange. The closest they have is St Mike's Terminal, which itself needs a facelift.Originally posted by huaiwei:It might probably just end up replacing the current Buona Vista and Ghim Moh terminals, both of which are in need of proper facilities anyway.
Come to think of it, they didnt realise Queenstown is probably the only new town not to even have a bus interchange?
Yeah, but arent there tonnes of entire neighbourhoods way bigger then all of Ghim Moh estate and served primarily by just one feeder service too?Originally posted by iveco:Kallang-Whampoa also has no proper bus interchange. The closest they have is St Mike's Terminal, which itself needs a facelift.
Ghim Moh Terminal is hard to remove. There is a rule stating that there must be a bus service for every 3000 HDB dwelling units. Combining Ghim Moh with BNV Terminal would leave Ghim Moh Rd with only 92. On weekends, there might be some minor inconveniences if that were the case.
May not always be true. SBST can always do their funny of thing of making the buses loop around the estate first before terminating at the new interchange.Originally posted by iamgoondu:If BV interchange were to move to next to next to BV MRT, Holland residents would suffer. Buses like 95, 191, 74, 32 ,145 will no longer call Holland Drive. And Holland Ave residents will only be served by 200.
THus after shift, Ghim MOh residents will benefit, whilst HOlland residents will suffer.
But my question, with CCL and EWL, does BV needs more services?
Some estates like Yew Tee and Bt Gombak may be served by only one feeder, but the MRT line runs right through and there is a station in the midst of the flats.Originally posted by huaiwei:Yeah, but arent there tonnes of entire neighbourhoods way bigger then all of Ghim Moh estate and served primarily by just one feeder service too?
I dont think Ghim Moh got more then 3000 dwelling units btw.
Kallang-Whompoa isnt exactly designated and planned as a new town, same at present day Bukit Merah and Geylang. All three were only treated as one due to logistical and administrative concerns (present day Bukit Merah merges the Tiong Bahru, Redhill, Henderson estates with Telok Blangah, which was once planned as an independent new town), but not planning wise, so the transport network would not have been planned to follow the model found in typical new towns?
Queenstown, being the first town, probably was planned before the idea of a spoke-and-hub bus network system was conceptialised and implimented I suppose?
I did contemplate the possibility of introducing those systems to those towns thou. Buona Vista might be the first step (although the bus interchange isnt at the town centre). Bukit Merah already has one. Kallang-Whompoa might be reorganised into two towns based on the URA boundaries...one centred at Novena, and the other at Kallang? Geylang might be better served if the interchange is shifted from Eunos to Paya Lebar, where an MRT interchange will be sited anyway?
I think its important to diffretiate between a "New Town" and an "estate" in this case, since it appears that the bus operations are planned according to the new town concept.Originally posted by iveco:Some estates like Yew Tee and Bt Gombak may be served by only one feeder, but the MRT line runs right through and there is a station in the midst of the flats.
Bukit Merah Town Centre has no MRT line running through it. However, residents have a choice of 3 stations to choose from. There is 132 to RDH, 16 & 851 to TBR and 131 & 855 (along Jln Bt Merah) to HBF. With the NEL, the nearest MRT from Bt Purmei is now HBF, not TBR anymore. 65 & 123 can be rationalised such that the former links HBF & Bt Purmei. 123 can help cover the missing links to Golden Mile area after the demise of 82.
What about Marine Parade Town Centre? How can connectivity in the area be improved? I'd rather have a bus interchange near Parkway Parade than the Upp East Coast terminal. it's aomething like a white elephant.
Marine Parade Rd near Mandarin Gardens will still have 31, 196 & 197 even if there is a bus interchange at parkway Parade. I remember one thread where someone talked about having a Marine Parade Int for 13, 15, 16, 55, 76, 135, 155, 853 & 966.Originally posted by huaiwei:Since we are talking about Marine Parade, it makes little sense to have the buses terminate at the central area, when most users are actually further up the road towards Victoria School? Unless you want to have a feeder service, which will probably cause the local residents to march up to the SM and lodge complains!
Yeah, but we seems to be more interested in greating some sort of consolidation, when travel patterns of most Marine Parade and East Coast residents is to go west towards town and back, with a interchange at the western edge of this area rather unnecesary?Originally posted by iveco:Marine Parade Rd near Mandarin Gardens will still have 31, 196 & 197 even if there is a bus interchange at parkway Parade. Oh, it could be the old fantasy bus route thread. I talk about my imaginary services amended to terminate at my FANTASY Marine Parade Interchange.Originally posted by iveco:Marine Parade Rd near Mandarin Gardens will still have 31, 196 & 197 even if there is a bus interchange at parkway Parade. Why extend further west where they could be terminated at the new Buona Vista Interchange. Buona Vista Interchange is to replaced the existing Buona Vista Terminal and Ghim Moh Terminal. And may even absorbed some services from Clementi and Kent Ridge.Originally posted by iveco:Read at the other sgbuses forum that Ghim Moh Terminal could be closed down & bus services like 100 & 111 may be extended further west. How high is this likelihood?
We wont complain much so long that the buses still past by this area.Originally posted by kuekj:If Kent Ridge Ter's buses are absorbed, won't the NUS students be complaining?
