Tell me the buses whose performances are worth mentioning whether they are slow or fast.

CRB. It beats the Mk 2 hands down. I took 3641G on 352 from PSR St 21 and arrived @ PSR MRT in less than 10 mins.

Try svc 88 VOs...the ones I have taken (9617, 9619, 9620, 9632, 9642) really chiong, but for some reason the LOs dont.

Mk4 DM3500 -

I have not taken Tridents much so I cannot say I like them.
LO3Xs are slow vehicles. -
Me, I still favour CRBs. VO3x are also good. Mercedes 0305 as well
But, the MK2 will be sent to the scrapyards next year... That marks the starting of the end of the 1980's buses, as well as the wind wiper that they have -
mkIIs, try 151, damn scary.
LO3X on 72 typically requires up to 20s to reach top gear, once in top gear, can go quite fast.
9000-9599 are very sluggish when climbing slopes, particularly when VO3X92/93 on 74 tries to climb slopes, the bus typically reaches only third gear aft 30s!
mkIVs have nothing special.
mkIIIs are damn sluggish and have top speed of only around 60-65.
VSOs fare no better.
I also think 9600-9670 are probably as fast if not faster than the others and do not sound strained speeding.
Dennis Tridents, dun know, sat only once on 165 in congested conditions.
Probably the champion is the smrt mb0405s, one sighted on TPE at 80+! -

Merdz 0405DM.. (Can go quite fast.. if you dont meet Traffic Jams..)
CRBN113s.. (Try taking it.. Well... jUst LOVE them..)
VO3x 96--- (Can speed very well...)

Habit Bendy... (Can go very Fast.. )
Merdz 0405.. (Same.. a very fast bus..)
(sOrry.. Dont take SMRTB that often.. thats all i know..)
For what i know.. i will try to skip Mk3s.. if i can.. damm SLow.. Performance damm Bad.. dont know why SBST bought it in the first place.. -
MK3s are a failure and total utter disgrace to the B10M chassis! U31RCN is another tortoise bus. Took one on 75 towards Bt Panjang and got so fed up i alighted and waited for 184 opp dairy farm estate. Rather wait for another bus. Stupid UDs.

A bit of elaborations on certain buses:
Volvo B10M MK II - Though old, it has huge amount of torque, and no speed limiter in them (somehow)
Volvo B10M MK III - Not all of them are that sluggish. Some can be really speedy. That really depends on who the driver is
Volvo B10M MK 4 DM, WA Strider - Same type of engine, good power, but screeching fan belt can cause people to pull off their hairs.
Volvo B10M MK 4 DM 3500 - The most quiet type of B10M MK 4 so far. Good pickup and good speed. However the gearbox might not be suitable at all times
Leyland Olympian 3 Axle - Don't ever think that they are old and slow. In fact, they can be quite good speeders. Again, this depends on how the driver manipulates them.
Volvo Olympian 3 Axle - 92/93 series can speed, as they seem to be ligher in some manner. Some of them between 94-96 sries may be sluggish, but performance wise is kinda average.
Volvo Olympian 2 Axle - Lightweight, fast, and windy. If it's roof-less, it can be a convertible.
Scania N113CRB - Oh my god! Accleration can really win other models, just by the step on the accelerator. However, the gearbox can be jerky at times, creating rough rides in between journey.
Mercedes Benz O.405 - One of the primitive batch of Single Deck Air-Con Buses. Engine can be really powerful at times.
Dennis Trident - Out of the double deck range, this fella has better acceleration. Might be due to its horsepower. -

Volvo Super Olympian - Such a pity that performance has been tied down due to speed limiter. However, comfort wise, it feels great. -

If ye guys think mb0405s are slow, you ought to overnight with me and hear these buses whirr past my house at midnight, from what I can see, I think they are fast cand can be pushed with no terrible sounds.
mkIIs are not that fast, I think.
And, mkIIIs, I think the last gear gives them a lot of leeway to speed, unlike the mkIVs. Evidence, 806T on 156 overtook 2638Z on 161 although the latter was already in the last gear and still accelerating.
LO3X is not that fast although it CAN do so, for a dd.
VSO is a real pity as the engine is quite powerful and should be able to give good rides. Rumours said that the last gear was removed to impede it. -
I would say it is very hard to determine whether a particular bus model is "fast". The speed depends on the speed limited at, which vary between each bus. The scheduling also plays a part in the "fastness" of the bus. A same bus can be fast to A, but slow to B due to scheduling. I personally witnessed this first hand. Citing the example you gave, 806T may be rushing for time while 2638Z is not (normally SBST 161 buses doesn't rush). -
Yeah, he was rushing all right, but it was a rare sight to see a mkIII so fast as I am used to seeing 74 ones ambling.

If there is something that can be confirmed, based on mental calculations, I do not think the LO can go beyond 65, you see, when a normally driving LO enters top gear it is only 50, how to speed effectively......

He told you wrong. 3-axle LO3X are known for their stability at speed, thanks to their powerful engines. I've taken a LO3X that went close to 70kmh in Singapore ( SBS 9026T, Sv 161 ) and which overtook TWO SMRT O405s. Typically, 161 drivers are maxed out by the speed limiters but there is 1 old man who disengages the gear of the VSO when going downslope so that the bus will go faster. I have sat his bus before and he has gone on the right lane of SLE in a heavy downpour so as to overtake a car in the middle lane.Originally posted by sBs_boy:ARE YOU SURE...??? I would just like to re-emphasise that no bus is naturally fast or slow. It really depends on the driver who is driving the bus. I have sat on a MkIII (svc 89) that overtook an SMRT O.405 on TPE and I have sat on a VO3X (9619H) that overtook a Trident on TPE and if that is not enough, I have sat on a LO3X that sped up the ramp to TPE and cut straight into the middle lane of TPE, overtaking 2 SMRT O.405s and a Mk4 DM3500.
So, my point of contention is that, a good driver with a bad schedule can coax the best of a bus. Another driver who has a good schedule will generally roll along so as not to catch up with the bus ahead of him. They have schedules to follow and they generally want to follow according to their schedules. -
