Maybe, the meter is not well?Originally posted by my@jas:I once boarded 161 about 6 months ago (SBS2754X) in the morning (Blk 298A along Punggol Rd@0625). The bus was packed and I was standing near the front door. I saw the bus meter clocked 80-90 km/hr (reach 90 at one point) while travelling on the outer lane on the TPE-CTE flyover and reach WDL in <20 min. Is there no speed limit for this bus?
How ironic, when we say VSO is the slowest, it gets caught for speeding!Originally posted by bendy2003:Looks like 161 tops the chart of 1 of the fastest service.... No wonder I once caught a 161 VSO being stopped by a TP on SLE....![]()
He sure used the bulk of the buses well....Originally posted by delonchew:Typically, 161 drivers are maxed out by the speed limiters but there is 1 old man who disengages the gear of the VSO when going downslope so that the bus will go faster. I have sat his bus before and he has gone on the right lane of SLE in a heavy downpour so as to overtake a car in the middle lane.
I would just like to re-emphasise that no bus is naturally fast or slow. It really depends on the driver who is driving the bus. I have sat on a MkIII (svc 89) that overtook an SMRT O.405 on TPE and I have sat on a VO3X (9619H) that overtook a Trident on TPE and if that is not enough, I have sat on a LO3X that sped up the ramp to TPE and cut straight into the middle lane of TPE, overtaking 2 SMRT O.405s and a Mk4 DM3500.
So, my point of contention is that, a good driver with a bad schedule can coax the best of a bus. Another driver who has a good schedule will generally roll along so as not to catch up with the bus ahead of him. They have schedules to follow and they generally want to follow according to their schedules.
& it looks cool and attractive too !!!Originally posted by sErviCe17rOx:SCANIA N113 BEATS ALL BUSES HANDS DOWN!!powerful acceleration
high top speed
rather high reliability (though i saw 1 break down 2day..leaking coolant..damn..)
1 of da more dominant buses in da East!!
I LOVE SCANIA N113!!
my advise is to take as many photos as possible before they are gone...Originally posted by ah_kwang:too bad we are going to say bye bye to the scanias soon... miss them...
MBs and Volvo are proven bus suppliersOriginally posted by supremebull:Me too. Personally, I'm a little bit tired of this Mercedes Benz and Volvo domination of buses in Singapore, so I support any move by those 2 companies to buy any other bus models, like Scania, Dennis, DAF, Hino...
Same too for me. I miss their quietness of the engine sounds. Er. sounds ironic. But I think these buses have the softest whirring sound when the buses are acclerating.Originally posted by ah_kwang:too bad we are going to say bye bye to the scanias soon... miss them...
True True coz havin 2 many buses means less biz for cabbies means less revenue for ComfortDelgro... so 10,000 buses at any 1 time is out...Originally posted by Superbus:A more realistic event would be like this (if it ever happens, that is), ComfortDelgro buys over SMRTB operations from SMRTCorp and will have 2 bus companies, SBS Transit and (ex)SMRTB. Just like the case of CityCab and Comfort Taxis. Both is now owned by ComfortDelgro, but not merged into one single entity.
SBS Transit (if SMRTB is ever merged into SBST), will never own 10,000 buses at any one time. Thus, the issue of regos running out will never happen. They are free to recycle old regos anytime they wish. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Agree whole-hearted with you.Originally posted by PJ_Quek:Sometimes bus speed fast or slow is not really depends on which type of bus, it is also based on the driver's character, some drivers like to drive slow, while some prefer faster.
More L94UBs. They are the natural replacements for the CRBs. Dysons of Melbourne has a full fleet of them. Why can't we?Originally posted by supremebull:Me too. Easy. Coz SBS Transit isn't Dysons.Originally posted by iveco:More L94UBs. They are the natural replacements for the CRBs. Dysons of Melbourne has a full fleet of them. Why can't we?
I see that you are back, but I tot L94UB no longer in production?Originally posted by iveco:More L94UBs. They are the natural replacements for the CRBs. Dysons of Melbourne has a full fleet of them. Why can't we?
