You get to roleplay with like minded players who also love fantasy very much. As for player killing, its mostly about skills, wits: run to this room and there, about who type faster rather than I have this piece of godly eq so i own you.

Why not? All games get outdated after a while. Eg Diablo, Starcraft, old final fantasy, red alert because the graphics of the old cannot match up with new upcoming games.
A mud is essentially just words. You can say it was outdated long ago but language is a powerful thing that it will never become obsolete. -

most people use zmud client instead of telnet.
zmud lets you configure alias, trigger, maps, etc....more fun :> -
zMUD is better in a way coz of its config ability and well..more user freindly lo he he.!

I even see this new sticky post now everywhere, about the old mud-turned client-server & web-based - LOTGD...Wow...loving it..
I love my Unreal Tournament99 and XBox too tho

used to hog computer lab for hours playing MUD in uni cos no internet connection at home. No need meals, No need to do homework, No need watch tv
MUD is a great Choose-your-own-adventure book - and some readers simply like to imagine the story than have everything drawn out for them -
Its a bit like the Belgariad on TV. Movies based on books like Harry Potter and LOTR are great cos amazingly many of the created characters look like how they look in the imaginations of readers. But... many other book based movies have disappointed greatly.
Hmm let's see... maybe Gandalf can be Belgarath, who would be Polgara? Catherine Zeta Jones? Belgarion.... uh... -

Do you know that I now work in what most people call the "I.T." industry? And the funny thing is that before I started playing MUDs in college...I HATED computers in general!?!?!
Then I learned how to send messages via Telnet to a LAN...and played jokes n pranks by sending "Please Re-Boot" etc. messages to everyone's screen in the computer lab...
I started learning step by step, and even became a "Wizard" in a MUD way back then, so I had to learn how to program in C language...lol...
We had those days of MUD like you say - all day n night in the PC lab...We'd call and have pizza n beer delivered (we'd pay extra of cos for the stop off, and this was in the US) to the Computer Lab, as we played and skipped classes. It got kinda crazy I guess - and a lot of people would classify it as seriously NERDY...But it is a great memory I have, and in some very strange way, it was a life-altering event for me...
