It has been years since I owned a 2-stroke machine. I have lost touch with the kinds of modifications that can be done or incorporated in todays 2 strokers to get more power out of them.
I used to own a single cylinder 2 stroke aircooled scrambler. To get more grunt out of it, I used to blue print and port the cylinder block. This was a fun thing to do and it did not cause you a cent.
Basically, the whole cylinder is removed, remove the carb flange that is mounted onto the inlet port. Smear blue dye on the rubber flange and mount it back on again and remove. Disparity and mismatches between the flange and inlet port can be seen, area does not have blue stain. File the inlet port to match the flange. The inlet port is also polished to a mirror shine to reduce turbulence and allow a smooth flow for the fuel mixture to enter the cylinder.
Some people will shave the cylinder head down by a few thousanth of an inch to increase the compression ratio.
The transfer ports between the upper and lower chambers are also sanded down polished to a shine. And the same is done for the exhaust port. Sometimes the exhaust port and inlet ports are widened slightly to enhance the flow.
A 2 stroke engine does not have inlet nor exhaust valves but instead uses the low pressure created by the outgoing exhaust gases to move fresh fuel/air mixtures into the transfer chamber.
Shortening the muffler restrictor to reduce exhaust backpressure has to be done moderately. Remove too much restriction and you have fantastic pickup but no top end speed.
Can anyone update me on what can be done to increase the power of today's 2 strokers???
wow .. power .. ermm u seems to be doing the good stuff ... i believe that theres not much diff in terms of mods / derestrcitions that can be done to 2 strokes regardless new or old .... maybe the newer 2X bikes have more morden card design and valve designs ... heheee
i love to upgrade the cranks bearings , balance the crank shaft ... sharpen the transfer ports .. match the exhaust port to the header ... change to v-force twin stage reeds , change to power jet , mikumis .. and dunno what other stuff to do on my final project ...
Damm sian .. got to do 3 bikes ... me blwon the big end bearings on me LC and just brought the enjine into my hse ... after that got to do my DT and then my last and fav bike .. my 350 ... ...
Which air cool scram u rode ?
