synthetic or semi synthetic for new bike

I used Castrol TTS (fully synthetic) on my TZM before but since my riding style is rather sedate, it resulted in a lot of oily residue at my exhaust pipe. I gathered that it is only worth to use if you are always riding at higher RPMs, say 8000 and above. Also, there is a lot of white smoke at start ups.
I am now using Yamalube 2S which is semi-synthetic and I am pretty happy with it. Doesn't seem to have any detrimental effects nor did I notice much performance difference between it and the TTS.
As for gearbox oil, I am using Shell 4T as it is the recommended oil to use by Yamaha Japan for Yamaha bikes. -
where can you buy the Yamalube and how much does it cost?

can we mix 2T? let's say i use brand x first, after a while i top it up using brand y. will it harm the engine?

its better to drain out the old 2T first before putting another new brand type in it.

Yes 2T can be mixed. No problem at all. *depends of what bike oso* But if u wish ur 2T reservior filled with pure brand x 2T than don mix lor. i suppose we just top up 2T when it goes low. but how often should we change gearbox oil? any clue?

I think if you are talking about 2 stroke bikes, then engine oil is the same as gearbox oil in this context as I notice a lot of people using the terms this way.
Best way is to follow what your manual defines and stick with it. In my manual, engine oil = 2T oil while transmission oil = gearbox oil.Originally posted by al:i got confused. are they the same, gearbox oil and engine oil? -

I am a new rider too, so I am not sure if I am corrct. As far as I know, 2T oil goes into a tank under your seat. This oil lubricates the piston block in your engine.
4T oil goes into the gear box near the engine. This oil lubricates the gears in the gearbox.

I have a Kawasaki too. Am using Castrol TTS for 2T and Castrol GPS for 4T. So far so good. Except one thing, I have some white smoke during starting. -

i do see some white smoke from my bike when starting. i thinks its normal. after running for about 5 minutes, the white smoke should disappear.
i am using the caltex 2t oil. as for gearbox oil, i am using the oil that comes with the bike.
do u think i should change? -

if you prefer, you can flush and change your 4T oil lor .... or you can run until it gets low or you need to send in for regular check up then ask the tech to change for you lor .... It is recommended that you use a fully synthetic oil. Better they say. Especially for new bikes.
Yah, the white smoke syndrome disappears aafter you get going. So I guess it's ok. But still dun like the fact got smoke. -
i think we have to live with the fact that all 2 stroke bikes have smoke.
if u want a smokeless one, then 4 stroke is the only solution -
need your opinions as to which is the best 2t and 4t oil on the market.
why did you choose that brand and are you satisfied with it? -
I am using mobil Fully Synthetic for 2T..quite satify....but a bit ex.

2t for wad type of use? pour in 2t pump or premix?
4t aR....motul is gd but very fast siap.esso gold not bad...if u r able to find rite total diamond not bad oso

I like the Yamalube 2S I am using at the moment. Cheap yet offers the same performance as the Castrol TTS (in my opinion). Good points are less smoke at start up and also less residue at the end can.
For 4T, I have used the Shell Advance only. Rather expensive but so far so good. Smooth clutch operation. -
does a fully synthetic 2t causes less white smoke at start up?
will it leave oily residue on the exhaust if you use a good 2t for sedate riding?
