wah those bikes are way way different. honda may call the varadero an "adventure sports" bike, that claims off-road capability. but look at the tyres, look at the shocks, and then the engine. i don't think it can handle off-road riding, unless you mean very mild terrain. it's like a hybrid, makes road riding easy, and can handle some light terrain. but if you're thinking of trailing, i think the KTM is a better choice. but as mentioned, it's a pure-bred race bike, maintenance is going to be steep. friend of mine has a KTM4, damn nice, but only if you can afford it. not saying you don't, but set aside a sum of money.
i thought about riding a varadero, think it's a very nice bike, can handle everyday riding. point to consider: are you upgrading your bike once you take class 2A or class 2? there's virtually no market for second hand ones, as far as the supply side is concerned. so you'll lose quite a bit if you plan to sell yours. maybe the demand is there, but other riders would probably think the same as me: rare on road, parts hard to find. i only know of 3 bikes that use a 125cc v-twin engine. honda shadow 125, yamaha dragstar 125 and varadero 125. hard to find parts. if your fairings need replacing? oh good luck man, the dealer would be laughing all the way to the bank.
how about a WR if you're into trailing? heavier and less powered than a KTM200, but nice and reliable? just my $0.02.
