welcome to Pulau Tekong, a place where you would be provided with free lodging, food and plenty of sunshine and water.
you are also given the only chance in your lifetime to fire a rifle, throw a grenade, eating out in fields( not kopitiams) and sweating like you never sweat before.
for a start, you would be required to hand over your pink IC to the SAF. In exchange, they will give you a wonderful green card called 11B and a couple of ID tags. For your information, it's not called "dog tags" as only dogs wear them.
For NSF: you are lucky, you can see your pink IC in 2 1/2 years time. don't count down on the days left, you will be feeling very terrible.
For Regulars, my advice for you all is to either colour-photocopy or scan your Pink IC, so that in the future, if you happened to missed it, still have a duplicate copy of it with you.
Next, you have to say: take care of yourself on the island. sometimes, don't try to be a hero, doing stunts and in the end, hurting yourself and sustaining the injury with you for the rest of your life.
For those without girlfriends, it's not so bad for the lot of you. you will have 1 less thing to care and think about while you're having training.
But when you are off the island, besides spending your time eating, sleeping and visiting the beach road army market, going out with friends, try to allocate some time, searching for your future wife. the best timing is when you are off the island and back onto the mainland again. life would not be so hard for you: at least you don't have to fight for your life, rushing not to miss the ferry timings.
For those guys who are already a couple, times might be a bit hard for you if your relationship with your loved ones is still not very secure enough. I believe all of you heard of stories where girlfriends so called "run away" with other guys while they are performing their national service.
cases like these do happen but is not so frequent. If you happen to be one of the few unlucky guys....
cheer up. think in this way: you should be happy for yourself, at least now you know that the girl is not so called "totally faithfully" to you, easily influenced by external factors and run away while you are not with her.
of course, saying is easier than doing.
you do get hurted in the beginning, thinking why she walked away from you when you needed her most at the moment.
don't worry, at least now, you have a new bunch of friends in your living bunk. All of you trained together, being tekan together, eat, shit, bathe and march together.
you would not always get the chance of doing these often.
