hi there, heard about the learner plate system in other countries like UK. in singapore, operating any vehicle on the road without a valid license is an offence. the old system was that you could just slap on a "L" plate and ride until you're confident enough to take the test.Originally posted by Warlock:Hi, I'm a foreigner and I'd like to know how to get a motorbike lisence here in Singapore and how much? and where and what number to contact (ie: Driving Centre...).
I've been riding motorbike for several years(without a lisence though) in my country so I think the pratical test is not a problem. But I'm quite scared of theory as I've heard it's quite hard to pass, you need to get 90% correct is it?
I used to ride automatic gear transmission bikes, so is there any place that I can rent a bike and practice without a lisence? I havent touched one for quite sometime.
Thanks alot in advance.
you're welcome... for your question, yes, you will be required to go through the whole course. but with your experience, i can say that the cost of getting the license would be minimal.Originally posted by Warlock:I've just checked the Driving Centre's websites. Both S'pore Safety Driving Centre and COnfort Driving Centre specifically stated that I have to go through the whole courses before I can take the theory and practical tests. Only Bukit Batok doesnt mention that. However, I highly suspect they will require me to complete the course before that.
So is there anyway that I can take the tests without having to go through the courses?

Just out of my curiosity, which country did you come from?Originally posted by Warlock:So is there anyway that I can take the tests without having to go through the courses?
If paying for classes is not an option, I'd suggest you to hold your horses for the time being. I dunno how difficult it is to get a license in Vietnam, but I assume it'll cost you less than it'll cost you in Spore.Originally posted by Warlock:I just called the ppl there. They said I must have student pass or PR. Damn it man, I'm still on Social Visit Pass, going to NUS this July, so I have to wait for 3 months.

I came from Vietnam. The roads there usually have only 2 lanes and they are 2-way. So usually the distance between vehicles can be around 10cm, I swear, sometimes my handle bar hit other vehicles. :-D . Quite dangerous. When I came here, I found that the roads are very safe.
Thanks alot to you guys. Will be joining you guys this July or August... :-D
Dun quite understand... why is it not advisable?Originally posted by graccz:i think its not advisable for u to get ur viet lic 1st then convert into S'pore lic later, given ur current situation.
-at least consecutive 6mths in the foreign country after obtaining the lic(muz bring passport to verify)Dun understand this point... does it mean you have to stay in Spore for at least 6 months after you convert your license?
-valid foreign lic(meaning the expiry date)This one makes sense, and it's quite obvious, isn't it? However, if your foreign license has already expired, you can still convert it to Spore license. There're additional requirements, though. http://www.gov.sg/mha/spf/ecitizen/services/Driving_in_Singapore/Generated/Index/proc_index.html
fyi, i was given probation lic and i was lic to ride only class 2b bikes even if foreign lic shows all categories of bikes. Are you sure it's probation license? So you have to put on P-plate? Your experience is different than mine, then. I didn't get probation license when I converted mine.
yah.. :-D .. moreover, most of the bikers there dont have a lisence (like me heheheh) or they buy the lisence. And the worst thing is that youngsters there love to swerve/swing their bikes on the street cos the police in VN sux. :-DOriginally posted by sunnyday:hey...i went vietnam during my army days b4...n i think it's damn cool
the way to cross the road in vietnam...just close yr eyes n walk past rite???hahaha...

i had my foreign lic converted to s'pore lic in yr 2000 and this is what i encountered...
-at least consecutive 6mths in the foreign country after obtaining the lic(muz bring passport to verify)
-valid foreign lic(meaning the expiry date)what is the riding theory test??
-basic theory test pass slip(riding theory test is not appliable for conversion)
like me lehOriginally posted by nismoS132:my fren in australia ride 250cc.
come back here ride 150cc.
u say leh?
I say we gotta accept it, like it or not. Unfortunately, it's the rule in Spore, and bitching about having to ride a smaller cc bike won't make the government bend the rule just for you, will it?Originally posted by nismoS132:my fren in australia ride 250cc.

Yes, I'm also a foreigner, converted my license in November last year.Originally posted by graccz:snailrider, u foreigner?
nt advisable cos even if warlock go bac viet nw to get bike lic, he needs to stay in viet for @ least consecutive 6mths after obtaining his lic b4 he can convert his viet lic to spore lic.
