When to change clutch plates??

Hi guys, jus wanna know when is the right time to change clutch plates.....
roughly how much it costs for clutch plate+ installation?

If low on CASH, wait till the clutch plates keep slipping...
If CASH FLOW quite smooth, 1) change when pickup's unlike the pickup you had when you bought the bike
2) change when clutch plates creating noise at 1st gear when moving off/slowing down (when clutch in) which irritates you
If CASH A LOT, change immediately as it's never too early to change them.

What is clutch plates guys?? Neber heard of it liaoo...tell me leh..what is the purpose, where is it located and how often much change?>??? thanks !!!
