some question to student rider/bike owner..

there r many polytechnic students owning their own bike...
hmm.. wanna get some advises from u guys about how do u support the bike with maintainance, petrol, taxes and stuff when u dun actually have a stable income due to schooling..
i just started the 2B course only... and still considering about getting a bike after completing the course..

during my schooling days to pay for the bike -
so many ways though, rob ? steal ? cheat ? if u r good lookin wif fair skin, wooty, small white face ... n by tat time, wht is bike? get spon. for a car liaoz !!

For your benefit.
Annual Stuff
1.) Road tax (depending if wat on the cc, and age of the bike can vary. $70 bucks and above) Can pay pay half-yearly also.
2.) Inspection.
3.) Insurance (depending on bike and age of rider. Of course, p-plate on 2B sport bike will be expensive as a guide think in hundreds of dollars)
Monthly Stuff
1.) Parking. $15 bucks for open air/ 17 for multi-storey
2.) Depending on ur school premies. U may incurred additional parking cost.
3.) Bike installment, depends on the bike shop arrangements (ususally 200 and above)
Weekly Stuff
1.) Petrol. Depends on ur bike (drink petrol or eat petrol). Depends on traveling distance. If u travel from east to west, everyday, on a sport bike, ur weekly petrol is confirm above $10 per week.
2.) Depending on if u ride 2 strokers, u may need to top up 2T oil on a weekly or monthly basis.
Maintenance Stuff
1.) Depending on ur riding behavior, some dudes like me go for servicing every 5000km, this translate to 6 mths (for me only, some can be earlier or later).
This includes changing of engine oil 4T, oil filter.
10000km, wash carb, change brake pads, spark plugs, if tyre bald liao needs to change
For me I usually spend $50 and above (but mine is a 400cc)
(Disclaimer here: Ur bike condition plays a big part, 2nd hand bike ususally needs more attention and money, as they have already been on the road for a certain time, wear and tear on other parts comes into play like sprocket, chain, pistons, etc, this will cost more than regular servicing)
Cosmetic stuff
1.) Depends on individual, if u thinking of riding sports bike, than confirm u will hand itchy, butt itchy go and add this, modify that. All this translate to $$$$.
Haywire conditions
1.) Bike suddenly suka suka breaks down. Depending on where and the damage, u might need to call tow (=$$) and repairs (=more $$$)

the most cost effective way to earn money during poly n bike is to give tuition
dpending on level, u can earn 10 to 20 per hr, during my time, a pri 6 student jus twice a week, each time 1.5hrs already 200bucks liao, sommore u got bike, sch to work n work to home is a breeze
better than u work banquet, waiter, long hrs plus u need the commitment there, worse case worse, it will eat into ur academic performance
sommore flexible hour, most parents are flexible enuff during non exam period
as long as u hit 400 to 500 a mth, u wont have difficulties feeding a 2nd hand average 2B bike, tat is if u dont have any other big time commitments -

anyway how much u intend to down?
Since you are a student , try to get montly installment below $120
If possible go top up petrol at jb , if you are getting kr/phatom (top-up to de top , and make sure it drips , petrol agar agar , if say u like to wonder around alot , put aside around $80(should be max) for petrol.
About petrol it really depends on , i spend about $80 a month , everyday to school and back , plus sometime at night go out near by , and weekends go town or somewhere further (anyway i top up both at singapore/johor) -
everymonth i spend almost $80 on petrol.
season parking + normal parking + erp = $30max
120+80+30 = $230
den things like servicing , minor repair(if there is any) and maybe minor mods you wish to do.
Put aside at least $300 dollars a month for your bike *for nsr sp/krr/phantom
if you get a spark135 or x1 , de cost of petrol will go down . (but still at least put aside $300 a month if better $350 (in case of emergency)
anyway do consider nsr sp also .. -

yah forgot to add , remember every 6month got to renew road tax - $40

haiz.. fail
mostly kena safety check prob.. but i duno where the hell did i kena.. coz i remember tt i've done the checking leh.. see no vehicle jus go oni.. kena 2 fail to check blindspots and 2 fail to check at junction. tt was enuff to kill me.. den change lane abruptly.. everytime kena one..
any advice how to pass? if not cant buy bike siaa
