For the last few months, every 2-3 days, fatal accident involved bike rider could be seen in the news...many minor/serious ones were not reported in the news. Please rider safely, be alert...accident rate is very high...and what is the caused? Human.
Seems like a pantang topic.
If you ride, ride, and ride, all the time, it is only logical that you will die on the road.
But there is no harm, in riding safely, being alert and defensive all the time, and to die of old age first.
Remember your safety helmet's best protection is in reminding you of your vulnerability each time you put it on.
Ride within your ability, and the capability of your bike.
Always learn and improve, everyday there are lessons to be learnt on the road.
Reading other vehicles movements, always asking what if that driver......... and being mentally prepared. Always be mindful of proper braking techniques. (Last year a 10 day old rider killed himself because of improper braking, his friend crashed, he wanted to stop but crashed himself and died.)
Always be cool headed.
There is little margin for error, therefore always be alert. Total concentration at all times. Total awareness of the situation around you.
Riders are better people than drivers, because of the constant state of awareness the rider is in. Drivers are stressed up when they drive, they are influenced by the day's happening, their mind on their problems, and they become neurotic people while in their cars/vehicle. Beware of them and avoid them.
One more thing, look far ahead, remember your riding instructors mantra. Singapore riders and drivers, always look as if they are walking, they look down just ahead of them. They therefore always come close to a stalled lorry/bus, and then make a lane switch because they did not see the lorry/bus well in advance.
SBS drivers are taught the 12 vehicle rule, ie look 12 vehicles ahead of you. Spot any obstruction and be prepared to make a lane switch. It is a good rule to follow.
Ride well.
another fatal accident involved m/cycle this early morning at CTE slip road --> Yio Chu Kang Road.....
Last evening there was a fatal accident too at but not sure m/cyclist or....
why, why.....
When exiting an expressway by a slip road that is curving left and sloping downwards, ease up on the trottle to slowdown, using engine brake, do not pull in your clutch and freewheel down the curve. Freewheeling down a slope is dangerous. Engine brake will give you a controled descend.
Ride within speed limits & your skill. Slow down when approaching ANY TYPES of conditions. I stress, ANY TYPE OF CONDITIONS.
Many times it's better to be scare of something then to brave a risk.
There is always enough time. Split second is not enough find a nice parking space.
Be alert, Read road/traffic condition well in advance & take all precaution at all time. Defend yourself by riding skill or horn!!
Go with small CC, lesser powerful bike if just for transport. No power=Precaution=safety (NP=P=S)
Speed only in Race Track, not road.
Avoid riding in Rain & bad health condition. Example tired, alcohol, stomach ache, headache ...
Lastly SPEED KILLS.
(I am not from Traffic Police, just my experiance. Hope the above ideas can be pass to Traffic Police.)
