My 1st class 2B practical lesson

Hi everyone! I recently enrolled for the class 2B course and today happens to be my 1st practical lesson. I was looking forward to this lesson and was feeling scared and excited at the same time.
But I fell down alot during my 1st pract. The bike fell when i was setting it on the main stand, fell when i was pushing it backwards and i fell down when i stopped the bike after it moved forward. I dunno whats wrong.. I can ride a bicycle but when it comes to riding the motorcycle, i feel intimidated and always feel like falling down.
Sigh... Now very disheartened. dunno wanna continue not... -

frankly i dont really think of any obstacles as a reason to stop from continuing to learn to ride,basically,if u have the passion to ride u wouldnt mind becoz ur learning.
just quit if u feel that way

hmm, i fell down when i was in prac 2, 1st time falling. even at prac 3 i can fall my bike when parking on side stand!! pushing it backwards, actually they say 1 hand front 1 hand at the back easier, but i feel that 2 hand in front easier. and bicycle and bike = not same. bike is engine, bicycle is pedal. i think u fall down is cause u let go clutch at gear 1, just rmb, at gear 1, u can never ever let go cltch.Originally posted by Sure-Fire:Hi everyone! If you have both hands holding on to the handlebars. You should try to move your body nearer to the motorcycle. It makes for easier manuvering the bike when its closer to your body.
Thats why, its easier to move the bike when you are actually straddled on the bike then pushing it around.
Dont worry about main stand thing, you will eventually get used to managing the bike when you graduated to bigger bike, then you find the bike you were riding at the centre really small and easy. -
The first lesson for me, I banged into the barricade, haha. Had I quitted there and there, i wouldn't be riding rite now. Going to get a Super4 soon, hooyahh!

Oh yah, i aso fell while negotiating a corner, lost balance and almost fell when stopping and even fell when i dismounted from the bike. All this in my first lesson in front of many ppl waiting to go for their prac7. I wuz aso the last person to finally get the clutch-freeplay right, but that aso kept stalling the whole time. In my opinion, prac1 was the hardest for mi yet the most memorable.
Moral of story: alot and alot of ppl did bad for prac1. So no need to feel upset.

Definitely there are differences between bicycles and motorcycles. Moving backwards and setting on the main stand, I had difficulty too and often lost balance, this is because of the weight of the motorbike as you're not used to it, unlike a bicycle.
There are also more control such as the gear, clutch and brakes in a motorbike which is not found on a bicycle. What I'm trying to say is that it just takes more practices and soon you'll become a pro!
Don't feel disheartened on your first practical. I'm sure there are people worst than you yet they've overcame it.

mainstand starting is hard if u dont know the technique.
the 1st time i did mainstand in orientation, i did for about 20 secs or more.
cause i dont know how to do it, then just keep pulling it.
after that, the instructor showed us how the real method is.
after prac 1, i did the mainstand in <2 secs.
u will get used to it too. -
To TS,
Dont lost heart.
I still often have trouble setting a bigger bike on mainstand.
Which is why you might want to consider using a better pair of leather riding glove then the standard white gardener gloves you use at the driving centre.
A pair of soft leather golf gloves will also do the trick. Try it. They are about $10 a piece and you can try to locate a pair.
The gloves provide some cushioning and additional grip to help you hold and rock your bike onto the mainstand. -
Thanks for the valuable replies everyone! I think i am going to book another practical lesson somewhere next week. And by knowing what my mistakes are (some of which were pointed out by you guys), I hope I could do better this time round.

How can u compare motorbikes and bicycle?
The motorbikes use by driving center is one of the heavliest class in 2B. Try to lean the bike towards yr body when pushing so that when lost balance,the bike wouldn' fall on the other side! -
You are so used to the light weight of the bicycle, that you forgot that the motorcycle is heavier. When the bike leans over slightly to the right of 90 degrees, it will pull you over.
For the time being always remember to lean your bike slightly to the left, to where you are standing. Do this even when you are pushing the bike. Later you would be able to hold it upright 90 degrees naturaly. But still, lean slightly left is the best. Don't be shy of leaning the bike against your body.
Later when you decide to take up Class 2A or Class 2, you will again face the same weight problem. Its just a matter of getting accustom to the weight. -
Ok, so I redid my 1st practical lesson today and to my surprise, i did not drop the bike even once! wooohooooo!
However, I still did face some difficulty when lowering the bike from the main stand, and when pushing it forward and backwards. But overall, I am quite satisfied with how I performed.
And thanks for the helpful tips eveyone! (The 'keep your bike close to your body' tip really helped alot!) Ride safe eveyone! -

haha had my 1st prac today and it was so funn!! i would say being a driver for a while does help.. kinda regret why i didnt take my class 2b back when i was taking my class3 lol..
Anyway looking forward for more lessons.. getting excited after so long again.. -

Gratz on passing ur prac 1 do keep in mind to alwys grab the bike's tank with ur knees...trust me it helps alot
oh yeah if u're moving on to prac 2 becarefull...dun hesitate or be overconfident..
juz relax coz prac 2 u need to move around negotiating corner ALOT haha
figure 8 and crank course

about plank and slalom
well plank u juz gotta look straight..
pick up speed b4 u go up the plank and wen u're up..Clutch in and let the bike move by itself if its too fast use ur rear brake to slow down..juz down eva look down...
as for slalom..
same goes for crank and figure 8
Grab the tank with ur knees and manoeuvre according to the cones =D
oh yea u'll be doin it with gear 2 so dun ride ur bike too slow..
and ya juz relax =D
