Second hand scooters

  Hi All,
  
  I have been meaning to buy a second hand scooter , preferebly a Vespa for the longest time.
  dont know much about bikes...
  so need the whole dirt on everything i need to do...
  first of all does anyone know bike shop open on sundays and PH ( in the east hopefully) thats the only time i can afford with work and everything....
  
  any help would be much appreciate...thanks
  
  ps: new to anysort of online forum, so apologies if the posting is made in an approproate thread/forum.

  Ok...there is roughly 2 range of Vespa.
  
  The old ones with the hand gears & the new ones that are automatic.
  
  So you might want to let us know which of them you are looking for, the price range and your own age and riding experience.

  If its the ET8 or the GT, roughly $4k not including insurance & miscellanous. Meaning machine price at $4k around there.
  
  If its the Lx150, you might have to consider 6k plus.
  
  I understand that a brand new bike is roughly 8k+, but by the time you add this and that....$10k plus at the end.
  
  If you got a cheaper deal, do let us know so we can update our 'ideas'.

  wow! thats a fair bit///..thanks though...
  btw do you know any specific places that would prefrebly open on holidays, have little time during the weekdays to go out looking...
  
  relaly appreciate the help
  
  in case you feel like obliging and have a moment or two to spare could you tell me the reason for the price differnce..just elementary detaisl would do...

  Open on holidays...private sellers. can find them on Singapore Bikes Forums.
  
  Price difference? You need to factor in a $2k depreciation per year. And the prices I've quoted you, are conservative estimate.

  word of warning, i work dispatch and have ridden vespas, they are fun and have a nice seating position but they are twitchy in conering because of small tyres and short wheelbase in my opinion.
  
  and be very careful in the wet, they can skid easily, i know some people who have skidded on vespas. especially on the slippery stripes when the road markings are wet.
  
  and my friend who owns one says when there is a pillon the you have to adjsut your riding style drastically.
  
  but then again my experience on vespas so far is pretty bad conditioned ones and older models.
  
  all in all its a fun commuter bike, but just be careful in corners.

  I love those old vespas.
  
  Used to ride one.
  
  Take note that the engine is on the right hump, so its heavier there.
  
  Folks riding those old vespas tend to sit lopsided to the left to compensate the weight on the right
  
  And if you are really lucky, you could easily find a cheapo old handgear vespa. I found mine at $400

  And ermmm.....roadmarking slippery is not a problem just for vespas.
  
  its a problem for all cars and motors.
  
  It was slippery when step on by a pair of gortex anti slip soles boots.....so its not a matter of the bikes.
  
  It really is a matter of the roadmarking paint quality.
