An alert grassroots member helped police arrest four youths trying to steal a pair of motorcycle rear suspensions.
It happened at about 5.20am on Friday at the multi-storey carpark of Block 510A Jelapang Road.
Johari Hamid, a transport operator who is also an RC member of Cashew Zone 2 Resident Committee was driving home in his van after taking part in Citizen On Patrol duties at Bukit Panjang Housing Estate.
He spotted two motorcycles leaving the multi-storey carpark of Block 541A in Bukit Panjang Ring Road.
He noted that both the riders and pillions were behaving in a suspicious manner.
Just then a police patrol car passed by his van.
Johari immediately alerted the officers and they stopped the two motorcycles along Bukit Panjang Ring Road.
A check found a pair of motorcycle rear suspensions, and an assortment of other tools.
Preliminary investigations found the parts to be stolen from a motorcycle parked at the multistorey carpark.
The four youths - three males aged 18 to 20, and a female aged 18 will be charged in court on Saturday.
If convicted, they can be jailed up to seven years.
Mr Johari has been commended by the police for his public-spiritedness which led to the prompt arrest of the four youths.
