Question: new NSR150SP smell like burning after 15 minutes?

Hi guys, I have some question :
1. My bike easily get very hot, use only 15 minutes then the heat-meter point to almost 3/4 of the scale ... is it normal ? I check the coolant, the water is there (not very full) ... I ask the dealer, they said don't put full water in coolant ...
2. When the temperature is hot, my bike started smell like burning ... what is the cause ?
I'm afraid something happen u know ... the smell is quite strong until my clothes, pant, hand, and face smell like ashes ... -
u put water in your coolant container only?

Sorry, just lived in SG abt 1.5 years, dunno local english slang too much...
I drive never exceed 6000rpm ... sometime change gear till 5'th and 6'th, but still around 5000-5500rpm ...
How long your bike smell like burning? Until now?
Is it ok not to put water into coolant container until full? I tot if put until full, then will help to cool easier ... -
is it becoz u always stop?must keep moving or else engine hot very fast

yuor coolant level must be somewhere between the low and full mark when the bike is cold.
the bike shop may not put in the correct mixture of coolant. it should be 50 % water and 50 % coolant. if the problem persists, its best to drain out the coolant and put new coolant.
which bike shop did you get the bike from? -
Hmm ... maybe that't the reason ... yes ... I often stop because I always go home on office hours ... got traffic jam until my hand tired ... maybe that's why it warm up very fast ...
By the way, must use 50% water and 50% coolant? I don't have coolant water... I use ordinary water can or not...
for particular reason I cannot tell the motor shop, I don't want to bad names someone ...

probably u can buy a bottle of coolant from petrol kiosks such as shell (think its $6.80 per bottle)
i never mix with water just use it concentrated...hehe...
heard from many frens that this batch of nsr150sp have the burning smell(FT plate i suppose)
i also have that b4(mine FT plate also)but the smell is gone after i change the 2t and gear oil...maybe the original oils that came with the bike is ***burning*** -

some bike shops tell me cannot use plain water, some say can.... i think to be on the safe side best is don't.
supposed to mix coolant with distilled water. however some brands sell pre-mixed, so just pour it in can liao.

normally, 2b class bikes dun get overheated easily. It's the bigger cc bikes that get overheated more easily. Sometimes, they even have to shut down their engines for it to cool off and then restart before they move off. But for 2B bikes, overheating shouldn't happen.
What kind of bike are you having ? Did the dealer tell you the bike takes a coolant liquid or just plain water cooled. Some bikes need coolants, like mine. Some are water cooled. If yours is water cooled, you can top up with plain water, but if yours need coolant and you pour in only water ... well I never try that, dunno wat will happen. Check what kind of cooling system your bikes needs. If you need to top up coolant, you can get Castrol Radicool at any petrol kiosk. You dun have to mix with water. Just buy and top up. It's already mixed peoperly for you. And please, no coconut juice for coolant hor ....
By the way, I was caught in a jam for about 15 to 20 minutes. But my temperature never rose beyond 1/4 of the scale. It is not normal for temperatures to go up to 3/4 of the scale, not that I know of. I think you better take your bike to a workshop and ask them if they can help you. You already smell something burnt. Best to ask them to check if there's really anything burnt or not. Dun overlook a heating problem. One of these days, if your bike catches fire .... let's hope not ....

My Lan JiAo NOVA smell stronger..., Muahahahaha !
As for my temperature guage, I pillon pple then higher loh, but won't exceed half mark lah.

Tell the bike shop to change ur coolant.. wat the should do is to remove the hose of the radiator then let all the old coolent out.. it is a green luquid.. then the will pour new coolent into the radiator (1 bottle)then top the rest up with water...no use adding water or coolent into the plastic coolent reservoir coz that is the reserve coolent.. wats impt is the coolent in the radiator.. u have to change the coolent once in a while coz the coolent has a lifespan too..Originally posted by LexZEUS:Hi guys, I have some question :

When I see the water in my coolant container is like soft blue... So, what coolant is that?
How often I should change my coolant?

What kind of bike are you having ? Did the dealer tell you the bike takes a coolant liquid or just plain water cooled.
The dealer told me to use plain water can already...

NSR got radiator? Whoa I dunno that... What I see is the tank under my pillion seat, is that the coolant container or radiator? The water is light blue...
I will ask my dealer to check it... and maybe I should bring it to motor service..

it is common for a new bike to smell like burning charcoal ... as for all the parts is new so it get heater while chipping of the metal that cover the piston ... when my bike is new , this oso happen to mi but after sometime of riding it ok liao ... mi is a FS9*** nsr 150 sp ... it ok one ... as for the coolent the colour should be green ... coolent can be purchase at all petrol stations in singapore ....

I get confused, but let me confirm this:
1. Coolant container's water should be Repsol Coolant (green color). Must dry out and replace with new liquid periodically.
How often I should replace the coolant liquid?
2. Radiator tank is plain water. Playing safe, I will dry out the water before I fill up with new plain water.
How often I should replace the water?
Is my statement correct? And please indicate the replacing period.

coolant is the thing you mix with distilled water in your radiator :p
best would be to have it changed once a year.
