How safe is it to ride a motorbike on the road?

My personal advices:
1) min 7hrs of sleep before first riding
2) ride slow, preferable on the left most lane
3) dun cut in between cars
4) check mirror once every few seconds
5) wear proper gear (eg. long sleeve jacket, glove, foot gear & etc)
Finally, dun ride if u feel sick or lack concentration. -

I think the 7hr sleep is important, imagine your concentration without enough sleep...

simple piece of advice: "Ride like everyone on the road is trying to kill u." This piece of advice was given to me by a long time bike rider. In other words, ride defensively and ride slow. No point speeding and cutting thru traffic just for a few minutes and no point getting the fastest 2b bike either.
I've been in two accidents despite taking all these precautions (both times knocked down by blind and idiotic drivers), but i still love riding. I have gotten my class 2, but i still mutter a prayer everytime i put on my helmet. Unfortunately, since there's only that many precautions u can take, and the rest is up to other road users. there are drivers out there who are arrogant, idiotic, or just plain blur.
I am not going to try to convince u riding is safe. It isn't, due to the fact that there are factors that are not in your control. Still, many of us love riding because it is part of this that makes it exhilirating. So, before u decide to take up this form of transport, consider this carefully, and keep this in mind. Equally important, keep in mind your loved ones too.

Hmm...... how safe, as safe as tp can be. Don't think they have a high accident rate. Maybe its because when they appear, road users behave. This ghost festival month i was involved in one accident and nearly got knock down in another. What i learned is that have a gd assessment of the traffic infront and rear before you lane change. Don't check mirror or blindspot for too long, killer..... (a couple of my friends and me met accident because of this). Its best not to overtake, follow behind heavy vehicles(their signal lights and brake lights sometimes have spoilt), taxi(we live to ride, they drive to live) and safety following distance. I have to disagree on taking the left most lane as its where theres most movement of vehicle in and out of the main road. Weather and bike maintenance plays their part. Well, talk so much also no use where a cockster come and bang you.
