hi all,
i'm trying to capture the old places in Singapore (fired up by Royston Tan's Old Places some weeks ago ) on photos and doing a little research and writeup on them...
so far, i have gone to:
neo tiew estate, dover playground, tanjong pagar railway station, TPY dragon playground, woodlands camp, whampoa fountain, seletar camp, kampong buangkok, etc
hope to put them up on http://remembersingapore.wordpress.com
it's sad that places like national stadium, national library and jalan kayu rural centre were all demolished to make way for modern buildings...

Angklong Lane = Angklong in hokkien means Tattoos, Toys, Figurines
Aroozoo Avenue = Funny Name
Attap Valley Road = Near Senoko Fish Port
Chin Bee Road = Chin Bee in hokkien it means very beautiful
Chin Swee Road = Same as above
First Street = Is this really the first street of Singapore?
Ghim Moh Road = Sounds like give more
Good Man Road = All the good must live there
Jalan Ikan Merah = Red Fish Walk
Jalan Hari Raya = Hari Raya Walk
Jalan Layang Layang = Layang means kite
Jalan Sayang = Sayang means love or affection
Jalan Sedap = Sedap means delicious
Jalan Sotong = Sotong is squid
Jalan Tua Kong = Tua Kong in hokkien mean Eldest Grandfather or Solid/big
Jalan Kayu = Singapore soccer, the fans always said the Referees kayu
Kaypoh Road = Busybody Road
Lim Tua Tow Road = Lim Big Head Road
Lorong Ong Lye = Pineapple Street
Middlesex Road = For Gays & Lesbians
Mount Pleasant = Not pleasant to live there. There's cemetery, columbarium & lots of ghosts.
One Tree Hill = Really only got one tree on the hill
Pearl Bank = last time got many pearls found there
Quality Road = This road must be QC by LTA every day
Saiboo Street = Sounds like Saboo street. Saboo as in Sabotage
Talma Road = Sounds like 他媽 Road
The Oval = Near Seletar Base Golf Course
Tua Kong Place = Same as Jalan Tua Kong
singapore may be small, but sure lots of memorable places around
next locations on my mini project are:
national stadium (in the midst of demolition!)
matilda house (think they going to preserve it and turn it into a restaurant or something)
capitol building (going to be demolished in 2014)
seletar camp colonial houses (very fast development!)

very little is known abt this abandoned camp of more than a decade... even google can't help much

nope still quite far from causeway...
along kranji road...
just before the railway junction (btw heard from the guy who jaga the junction that the railway, gates, guard house will all be gone next year)
