"On 4/22/03, we found a strange two-inch long shaft of ice "growing" at an upwardly-diagonal angle from our ice tray (see image below). The freezer is very clean, and we are certain that this was not a fragment which fell from the ceiling of the freezer into the ice tray as the water was freezing. Does anybody have any explanations?
There have been so many emails about our inquiry that it seems the only way I can "return the favor" is to write this.
I'm overwhelmed by all the replies. The emails we got reflect an INCREDIBLE amount of warmth in this show's community. The massive feeling of connectivity and curiosity I got from your emails was amazing!
Many people offered different scientific explanation involving magnetism, air currents & electrical charges. A very good video link was sent explaining the "ice spike" phenomena:
click hereIt came up many times that people have seen this with distilled or purified water, which ours was.
Several had sexual theories ranging from Viagra to "It's happened to mine before. You need some little pink ice trays in there with the little blue ones."
One particularly funny email chastised me for hoaxing everyone. "Let me go grab an icicle off my roof - stick it in an ice cube tray and claim it is antigravity. You're such a doofus."
Several implied that it was a positive spiritual message; that good fortune was on its way. Always open to theories like that!"
