TY TY..
I went to see the iPhone. Quite impressive. Actually what they actually plan to do is already technically available the market. With my iPaq I seldom use the stylus but instead use my fingers to do the work.
From the looks of the presentation, it seems planned launch is June 2007. I bet I will be one of few suckers rushing to get it when it gets released. I'm really impressed with the functionality of it. Indicative price is USD 599 with a 2 year contract. Not exactly cheap, but still within affordable range. Very competitive. The slides further indicate partners with this is Yahoo!, Google, Cingular Wireless AT&T (for the US). So the phone would have direct programs that interface with Yahoo and Google.
Somehow I think the name iPhone is inappropriate. It is a browser, camera, organiser, music/video player, phone. 8gig memory easily allows it to behave as iPod. Somehow they could have kept the iPod name on it, with a suitable 'ultra' suffix.
However, the important step that Apple needs to do is the associated PC software to sync with the phone. I'm a given MS fan, my contacts on my PDA phone seamlessly syncs my appointments and contacts. Apple has to introduce a very credible outlook-style program to win over that significant portion of the market.
It provides a very apparent value proposition to future devices that fixed static buttons are a feature of the past. With touchscreen LCD and even OLED, we can expect physical buttons with set locations and functionality to be obsolete.
Some interesting slides (hope the link actually goes through).
