  When his family visited my place for dinner during CNY, his wife and him very happy that we had beer and good wine throughout the nite. They would have felt so stifled if no alcohol during dinner.

  In a Singaporean context probably. But overseas in Japan, China, Korea, many parts of Europe, the US, all of em normally have alcohol on a daily basis one..
