i'd say if just good friends, it doesn't matter... each have their own ups and downs depending on your own gender...
i'm a guy.. if my good friend is a lady, i can't just ask her out for a couple of beers and watch the football at the pub... her guy would also get mighty suspicious over nothing and it'll cause friction...
a guy friend? none of these problems...
if you're a lady, and your guy friends ask you out, think about how your partner feels?
