Are there any breaks/holidays thru-out ur 2yrs in NS, excluding the usual wkend bookouts?
Bookouts are from fri to sunday right?
Do we bookout for public holidays?
Can we go overseas during NS( as in during the wkend) -
yes there will be holidays throughout your 2 years of NS. u will book out for those holidays. so don't worry.

you sound as if u will be in BMT for your whole NS life..
Depending on your vocation, u could have much more offs then u expected..
To go overseas, u need to apply for overseas leave
You get 14 days leave a year, which can be brought forward to the next year
When you a re a trainee, u can't apply leave fyi.. -

As long as there's no scheduled training or assigned duties, you should be able to book out regularly for nights-off, holidays & during weekends. Some servicemen can even "stay out", i.e. book in before morning parade on the next day.

A combat unit will occasionally organize "block leave" as well, usually 3-6 days for a whole company (or equivalent) when the training programme permits. Individual leave is generally more difficult you're in HQ or the service side; IMO you'll really need to be sharp in timing those applications.Can we go overseas during NS( as in during the wkend)
Yes, but keep in mind that that NSFs has operational obligations. So remain contactable when abroad, at the very least with families & friends.
Administratively,
(a) there's no need to inform MINDEF if overseas for less than 24 hours.
(b) notifying MINDEF is required if leaving S'pore for between 24 hours & less than 6 months. I've used the phone method (1800-364-6333) before, but didn't get to try the fax, email, internet or snail mail options.
(c) an exit permit is needed for being away for more than 6 months. -

for combat trainees, you will only get to take leave during your block leave together with your platoon, usually after a siong exercise. -

The SAF style is usually to use up the "owed" off-in-lieu's ahead of official leave. The former is also more flexible for line companies, with the CSM controlling things & needing only the PC's signature to validate approval. With leave, you'll need to administratively involve the BN-office bureaucracy.
