You are lucky I was not your Guard 2IC.You would have seen a war in the guardroom. If you think that was a good idea of a joke, please go get a life. The SAF is better without demented people like you in the force.Originally posted by flash9933:I still can recalled the last Guard Commander duty before ORD, I turn-out the guards for more than 20 times thru-out the nites. RSM also shocked when he saw my Guard Comm report the next morning.
why did you do that?Originally posted by flash9933:I still can recalled the last Guard Commander duty before ORD, I turn-out the guards for more than 20 times thru-out the nites. RSM also shocked when he saw my Guard Comm report the next morning.
haha .. the Guard 2IC also like me serving his last duty ... and guess, he also instigated the turn-out as well.Originally posted by LazerLordz:You are lucky I was not your Guard 2IC.You would have seen a war in the guardroom. If you think that was a good idea of a joke, please go get a life. The SAF is better without demented people like you in the force.![]()
Well, point taken. But don't you think 20 times is a bit too much?OTT man..Originally posted by flash9933:haha .. the Guard 2IC also like me serving his last duty ... and guess, he also instigated the turn-out as well.
Why?? Because the guards did not serve their duties well, sloppish during their duties as prowlers/sentry and no sense of urgency during the initial few turn outs. The only way is to repeat till they do a good job.
Two of the prowlers were caught by me resting in the canteen while I'm checking the camp compound and they dun seems to show any guilt when questioned by me.
Army RSM ever mentioned that the discipline among junior specialists is rock bottom. This is a good example of poor discipline on the part of the guard commander.Originally posted by flash9933:haha .. the Guard 2IC also like me serving his last duty ... and guess, he also instigated the turn-out as well.

I totally agree.Be the change you wish to see.If you want your guards to be smart, hardworking, then you as the Guard Commander must show the same.It is not enough to use your rank and abuse it so flagrantly to cover up for your own shortcomings. If you are not a "garang" person, please for God's sake do not ask more from your men than what you can offer yourself. There's too much of this going around, caused by people who misinterpret the meaning of discipline.Explain to your guys what is needed by you. Then all is fair and if they continue to slacken, then just give the appropriate punishment, which must match the offence concerned.Originally posted by superflydmw:Army RSM ever mentioned that the discipline among junior specialists is rock bottom. Firstly, did you brief your guards the standards you are expecting of them? Did you specifically let them know they prowling routes, turn out drills execution and what punishments to be given if standards are not met?
Or did you simply assume that it's already known? Perhaps not the first time they or you doing duty, so tell them for what? Or maybe that day is your last day of duty, so... what the heck... give them a good one because I want them to be good soldiers?
Any of the reasons, you are still at fault. Prior to execution of drills, commanders must give detailed explaination of what is the standards to be expected, to the extent of showing himself how you want the drills to be performed. If the men screws up 1st time, then it's still commander's fault, because his briefing is not clear. Brief them again, emphasising the parts they did not achieve 1st time. Before executing the drill again, ensure they know the consequence of not achieving the standards.
By this time, Singaporeans should already get the point, and execute the drills properly. If you show professionalism and leadership by example, I don't understand why you need 20 x turnouts to bring your point across. If 1 or 2 lazy or rebellious ones still persist, then just recommend extra duties since they display insurbodination. When you give 20 x turnout, you cause misery to the majority of others who are simply trying their best to complete NSF.
And don't be proud of what you did either. It's as good as using rank or position to bully people. You are just as proud as the commando trainers who dunked heads into water.
wow piang, dun tell me what to do as a Guard Comm lah ... and I never mentioned I felt proud about it .... different ppl got different approach ... and please .. what is the title of this topic ... is "TEKAN" ... if you are so sincere to bring your recommendation across this forum, I suggest you create a new topic as in "How to be a good Guard Commander?"Originally posted by superflydmw:Army RSM ever mentioned that the discipline among junior specialists is rock bottom. Gee.He's just trying to respond to the topic from another angle.Meaning, how to get the message across with as less "tekan sessions" possible. And how not to be sucked into the practice of "tekan-ing" for its own sake.Originally posted by flash9933:wow piang, dun tell me what to do as a Guard Comm lah ... and I never mentioned I felt proud about it .... different ppl got different approach ... and please .. what is the title of this topic ... is "TEKAN" ... if you are so sincere to bring your recommendation across this forum, I suggest you create a new topic as in "How to be a good Guard Commander?"
