unforgettable moments in NS

Hi all, alot of people often kpkb about NS when they are in it but deep down, it is undeniable that they too feel a sense of belonging, camaraderie and an invisible bond that keeps them going when the going gets tough.
So, why not all of us share some unforgettable moments that you experienced during NS which you won't trade anything in the world for it.
For me, it would be all my overseas exercises, especially so during my ATEC in ROC. For 5 days, we trekked over mountains, rivers, cemeteries.... firefight in villages, hills as big as ang mo kio and topo in typhoon weather, holland till the whole section went to a town with our rifles
....
man... those were the days..............

my BMT is memorable. i can't help but think of those great times the whole platoon have gone through everytime i look at my platoon photograph.

i have nothing about my NS....except in tracom, once POPed its everyone is an island....sad to say....

Firing hundreds of mortar bomb & illum at Pasir Laba with my platoon was the best!

Seeing toads hopping around my sentry post and eating insects when I was still a trainee at OETI might not be very interesting to most, but it ranks as one of the most unique things I've seen in the SAF.

BMT in Tekong - Buddy actually sleep as we are walking. Doing sentry
Post to Airforce - do nothing jus eat snake n take cover all day
Post to taiwan - Damn SHIOK ah... ( best memories ) -
Seeing sunrise over pasir laba on pengkang hill... den stay for sentry duty there until midnight, look at tuas causeway lights/dark forests of johor/fireflies
Burning in the 'desert' of Changi East... probably the only place in s'pore where you will see a flat horizon
SAF land are some of the most scenic places in s'pore. -

My most memorable time was in Taiwan.
The whole battalion looking at the sky as it was the first time most of us see shooting stars at night.
Seeing the beautiful pacific ocean and watching dolphins leaping up from the water. -
During BMT.... towards POP.....
Marching to the cookhouse in company level while singing the Infantry Song.
I got shivers down my spine and a lump in my throat every time we sang the chorus.

unforgettable moment:
first time kena insulted "you are a CB, you are meant to be f**ked".
ah.. looking back, it's quite funny, that line.
But i never forgave the damn bmtc PS who said it to me. What's more, he was a lousy leader!
even now when i see him in NTU, the feelings of rage start to churn within me. maybe i WILL kill him someday. Maybe next sem, next sem i kill him. -
my overseas training in thailand. one of the most enjoyable times i've spent in army. great companionship with my entire section.

Still early to say yet as I have only in NS for barely more than 5 months..........
But, until now the most unforgettable moments in NS maybe is the period when I was attached to the other camp before taking out courses......... Life there is slack slack slack and OTOT in every aspects -
my BMT field camp is unforgatable, cos it rain 5 out of the 7 days.
plus seeing the famous wild boars of tekong.

We got Cat 1 for 8 out of the ten days.
About 1/4 of the company came down with the flu shortly thereafter.... including yours truly. -

Where: ROC.
Year: 1994.
Location: Up high in a mountain ( partially a tourist sight seeing place ). I was the driver of a Landrover and another camp mate, a Unimog. Both our vehicles fully mounted with signal equipments ( mine is a classified unit/vehs ). At around noon, we deployed infront of a buddhist temple and setup our equipments and at the same time taking our lunch break.
2 buses fully load with taiwanese tourists arrived. The moment they exit from their buses, men, young babes, kids ran towards our veh. ( They were curious about SAF at that time lah ) Started taking photos with us. My buddy driver is a Indian guy. Boy, he was too shock man! 4 of our signal men ( who r regulars ) then talk to em, stops em from taking photos ( classified equipments mah ) while me chatting wif some chio babes and kids..... A old man even salute me and said in mandarin: Zhang Guan ni hao! Wah, I can feel I am flying high man! -

Worse still, my coy insisted on training during cat 1. First time in my life i came down wif a 39-degree fever.

mine was also my ROC trip during OCS.
and my lancer trip too. but that one was unforgettable in the negative sense. i would never wanna go back there man!
my unit days were nice too... it could have been better but well... -
Geez, that's a tough one - I could be writing all night.
It took me about six months to get comfortable with being in the army, but once I did, the remaining two years were great.
Anyway, the anniversary of my red beret presentation is coming up in a few weeks, and a few of us are trying to get everybody from our company for a get-together. It'll be good recounting a few tall tales over more than a few cold beers! -
