Leather Up: New Full Leather Combat Boots

Recruits at Basic Military Training School are now each equipped with two pairs of the new full leather combat boots, which are more comfortable, durable and cost-effective than both the old leather boots.
Introduced in June this year, the full leather combat boots have an ergonomic design similar to the Gore-Tex waterproof hybrid boots. They are made entirely of soft, lightweight leather with a strong, tight fibre-structure to increase durability and improve comfort.
The new boots are not waterproof as they do not contain the Gore-Tex membrane. This means that that they are close to 30% cheaper than the Gore-Tex waterproof hybrid boots, making their use more cost-effective for Our Army. Nevertheless, for soldiers who are exposed to frequent field training under different weather and terrain, such as those in Infantry, Guards and Commandos, Gore-Tex waterproof hybrid boots are still issued.
REC Chen Wei Jing said, ”I have a friend with the old leather boots. The new boots are definitely much softer and more comfortable. My friend gets blisters easily especially when he does running. I have not had any blisters so far with these new boots.”

well! they finally realised the gore-tex boots are not as good as they hoped it would be. leather is still the way to go.
but i had no problems with blisters with my leather boots leh. in fact find them more comfortable, although they are slightly heavier. -
Wuming, but i think you are refering to the different leather boots when you were in service.
These boots have the same overall design with the gore tex ones except the goretex fabric area is now leather. The sole is exactly the same as goretex.
I seriously think why there was this change is primarily due to cost factor and that "confirmed" (mono-intakes) combat vocationalist still receive gore-tex as it is really more practical than full-leather in outfield conditions.
The full leather boots does not provide comfort at the ankle area but rather people are more prone to spraining it as it does not fit around the ankle.
I'd rather stick to gore-tex. -
Gore-Tex for me too.Waterproofing is very important, especially durng rainy days when I don't want to wear civilian into camp.

i don't like Gore-Tex boots whether it's the new all leather ones or the waterproof hybrid ones.
i like the 1st generation all leather liao jiao boots, made by SAF. which i still proudly wear now.

i believe many lao jiao are still wearing those lao jiao SAF boots. the sizes are not in US, the sizes are measured in hundreds like 270, 277 etc. -
ahhhh...guess when i get in i'll get to wear the new one...anywaes..thank god not getting the goretex ones...heard stories that the ankle support aint so good..i like mine tight and firm...hehehehe

i like the shine that comes from the older kind....although its abit tough to get the shine....it sure last longer....but i guess its the way u shine it...
mine was apply kiwi....then use lighter....then repeat abt 10-15 times...
then i buff it.... -
but REC still allowed to use GoreTex boots in BMT rite?
my dad got a pair of gore tex boots before he left SAF. hardly worn. i hope to be able to use them in my BMT... -

i like the traditional SAF boots the best, don't know why, i just find that it looks smarter.
somemore it's comfortable. i like that tight feeling.
