Yeah, I agreed wif you. I am still wearing the same pair of boots from Day 1 of posting to my units after BMT. The boots if really polished until very shiny looks very nice under the hot sun!!Can see that the boots "glitter"...
Still can remember that during enlistment they give me too small and when i requested to change they say cannot..cos i "try" them on liao..what a lame excuse!!

i found out that female soldiers look better in the traditional lao jiao boots. cos most females have slim legs. looks good on them.
same goes for man too. lao jiao boots more suitable for people who are thin with slim legs. -
I like those old leather boots. Wore my friend one before last year when I went for NCC course. But his boots too small (247, I wear 255), cause me to have blisters during all 4 days. Step into a hole (not very big as in my feet cannot fit in) still will not sprained my ankle. NCC gave me jungle boots (green colour cloth type ones), step sideways, landing not properly and given that I had sprained my ankle before, stepping into a hole means I sprained my ankle again if it is not firmly supported.
Goretex kind, if you look inside, there is still the 270, 277 size written but very small and not very clear. And the ankle not really supported, like very soft same as jungle boots cannot hold properly one. -
There is actually a few generation of combat boots I've seen.
My elder brother did his NS in the 70s' - his boots had a seperate leather toe cap in the front - like some of the civvy shoes. They had to polish it till it shine. He change those old boots in the 80s', while in the reserves - to the ones with the rough "pimple" like leather - no need to shine anymore - just kiwi.
I wore those same boots as my elder brother during my NS, until I too, changed them for the lighter smooth leather ones in the mid 90's, while doing my ICTs. These were good pair of boots - lighter, and no need to break them in (season). I wish I had them for SOC during NS. The new soles were easy to clean as well.
Recently, after 2000, the SAF introduced the gore-tex ones. I've not bought them - don't know how good they really are.
But I'll stick to my old leather boots. To me - its "proven" in a way - considering all the weight I have to carry.
And now, I read - to save costs - recruits are going back to leather boots again. -
Goretex would be good esp when you stay in trench outfield

The goretex are super song to wear, but they are delicate. By the sixth month of my army life, after all the outfield and route marches, they have been worn down quite alot. Wanna get replacements but my credits will be blown away.

Any1 selling?I throw away my chiong sua boots when i ord..now left 1 parade boots..not seasoned ley..

i ord for 2 yrs liao but still no credits cos i in IHL unit so no reservist..so unfair! -

somemore it's comfortable. i like that tight feeling.
especially even so for SOC.
it tightens areas ard the ankle, the cutting is so much better...
even the sole is better for climbing up the zig zag horizontal beam.
but i do wear the Gortex ones during admin time,
but when chiong sua, i stick to my lao jiao boots. -

Rmb i used to kiwi my boots longer than my platoon mates because the surface area is bigger(285 as compared to smaller sizes) -
i always wanted to know which company made the lao jiao boots?
is it made by SAF itself? cos i can't find any ladel anywhere except "Property of SAF". -
