Me oso kanna RP. Mine unit is at Paya Lebar Air Base. Any one know RP there siong not? Hear that they say air base RP more siong than army RP, true not? What do we do there?

They are from the FDS (Field Defence Squadron)
What do you do there? Train to protect airbases. -

But air base from what i know is there is no stay in..coz there is no place for you to stay in anyway.. -

FDS should their own RPs, mah. Is the RSM in charge of them like they do in the Army?

depend whether your guardhouse is stay out or stay in shift type. stay in shift type must stay in do duty 24 hours, sometimes even cannot go for weekends if your shift falls on weekends.
it's like doing guard duties everyday. very monotonous job. will easily get bored. just be prepared to do a lot of sai kang. u can also forget about any promotional prospects. -

anyway u are getting combat pay as a RP, even though most of the RPs don't chong suah. once reaching ORD, they might send u for infantry course to prepare u for your reservice as a rifleman. -

2 weeks RP course at School of Provost (SOP) at Mowbray Camp. it's a stay out course. it's a nice and relaxing 2 weeks there. u will get to meet those funny MPs instructors with great sense of humor.Originally posted by 2power2:Btw .. we need to go for RP course right ??

I would be reporting to Mowbray camp on mon.. they say expected to stay in and bring all BMT issued items.. including mi chiong sua helmet?
How's the first 2 wks of RP training? Wat we're supposed to do?
BTW.. i saw a number of copral RPs at tekong.. how they got tt? -
RP conv. course is super slack . 2 weeks only. teaches u all the basic rules of engagements and i know u will be watching movies and attending lectures if i am not wrong, its a stay out course so congrats.
Life as an RP varies from camp to camp and u might be doing ur duties on public holidays like christmas , chinese new year or wateva. Kinda like the downside to the vocation. -
RP at Paya Lebar Air Base... good luck man!
FDS is like RP + rifleman, bao ka liao. In addition to RP training (learning about various SAF laws) you will also be trained in basic infantry skills like weapons handling (gpmg, saw, law, m203). You will also have a bit of outfield training, section/platoon live firing, fibua, chem defence...
Duty wise, it varies from base to base. Mostly its 24 or 48 hour duty followed by an off day, working in shifts. You can kiss goodbye to most public holidays.
FDS got no weekend or PH, its either you're on duty or off duty.
If you lucky, u might get posted to an admin post within FDS, then its 9-5.
Dog unit within FDS, only RPs trained at Mowbray will be posted there.
The highest you can be promoted to is Cpl for 'A' or diploma holders.
FDS is not physically siong, but is mentally draining. You will be doing almost the same thing for the rest of your NS life. For reservist, you will most likely be posted back to PLAB FDS.
Among the 4 bases, PLAB and Tengah are the most siong b'cos they hold the largest numbers of fighter aircraft. PLAB is slightly more siong b'cos it is located so near to civilian areas. -

My understanding is FDS troops don't "siong"-suffer like infantry but, conversely, they're more "super on" than combat units (cuz they're guarding key installations). I guess, from the Army standpoint, the FDS experience would be like contantly doing standby ...
