Hi Guys, just wanna confirm with you all, is it necesssary to take RT if I fail IPPT after my window closes, considering I'm now a full-time student studying in SG?
As a principle, yes, cuz RT is non-residential like IPPT (& unlike ICT). You can apply to your Unit for RT deferment by submitting valid evidence, like an exams timetable, but must otherwise show why you can't be released to go down on weekday evenings & weekend mornings/afternoons. Note, though, that upon approval of deferment your Unit will book on your behalf the next-suitable RT schedule & inform you accordingly. Inconvenienced? Hey, working reservists - including overseas frequent fliers - aren't excused either.
FWIW Best way to "postpone" the entire liability is to get medically exempted (6 months consecutive or 9 months culmulative) or being posted to MINDEF Reserve or to a Holding List (i.e. disrupted cuz you're overseas, etc.).
I only know you can be exempted from mobilisation and ICTs during your Higher Education Learning (HEL) years.
Nowadays excuse mob, meh? I kena Area i/c during my 1st year at NUS in the late '80s &, during the later years when I stayed in the campus hostel, was actually activated once by pager. Had my No. 4's with me, but ended up travelling cross-country to my Tampines home for fullpack items after receiving a tipoff that they were conducting full equipment checks.
