Jehovah Witnesses (JW) is a christian denomination that practices conscience objections. .. what ever that means....
basically they believe they cannot pledge allegiance to flag and country. they are peace loving, and do not believe in carrying weapons.
In the SAF context.... a special arrangement is made for them to serve their NS liability. -

Duty Battalion.If you can go DB fo your faith, I think it must be pretty strong.Gotta admit most here, including me, might not have the guts to suffer for whatever we believe in to this extent.

they go to a nice place where they have a free hair cut, a nice souvinier grey t shirt and black shorts. Plenty of good food, 3 square meals and good exercise. Free weight loss programme, free body toning programme. You get your own personal suite with a nice toilet and a nice bed. my warden fren told me the JWs inside are either cleaners or barbers. they stay inside for 2 years straight, no nights out, no weekends off.
basically its like going to jail for 2 years straight.
i don't remember about parent visits, or whether they get NS allowances. -

Their DB is 3 years. What happens on enlistment is they are ordered to wear No. 4 3 times. If they refused then they are formally charged and DB 3 years.
They are then considered to have served their NS. And their reservist is 40days DB annually for 13 years. -

what is jehova witness ?
Plenty of info on the net, what - inc. how their beliefs clash with our NS system. They also have some other quirky beliefs, like not accepting blood transfusions & not singing the national anthem too.
For the record, they kena the DB not due to being JW's, but legally for being conscientious objectors. Moonies, pacificts, et al. - all of them will get the same treatment under our laws if they reject being conscripted. -
JV's also do not believe in celebrating Christmas or birthdays.
And definitely not Halloween. I've got friends who are JV and they would not come to my birthdays or halloween parties. It's considered pagan to them. -
In my point of view, belief are belief.
in life u jus have to be flexible.
