I'm a spec currently on No-pay leave pursuing a degree in NTU.
Will my ROA change? -
Not unless you wish to convert over to be an officer.If you are combat fit, that should not be a problem, you should ask your S1/MPO or CO.However, a Specialist with a degree will not get extra pay, so I've heard.

depending on what rank, what career advancement prospects and what long term plans he already had before he went on NPL, converting to an officer may or may not be the best career move. it may well be worthwhile staying as a specialist and becoming one of the best amongst them, then starting from scratch as an officer, and competing with the rest of the officer corp, most of whom are likely to be degree holders.

And whether he's in Service or Combat too.If you're PES A or B, it's easier for your ROA, as you can go for more combat proficiency courses even if you're in Service.

anyway, if u stay as spec, and ur degree is relevant to ur vocation, possible chance u can put to good use provided the SAF recognises degrees for senior WOs....

army, air force i dunno... but in navy there are... can find most at 188sqn...

hmm...to me, its better to convert to officer.
why? well, you can sign on for 6-9 years, so after that contract, you can choose again whether you want to continue or not. so, its just as flexible, if you stick with being a spec, go check your maths, you will loose out TENS of thousands of dollars, and less prospect.

it is not as easy nowadays. if you like to extend your short-term contract, you would need to perform to certain standards and go through interviews. its not entirely your decision. and the duration of the contract is also up to them. and btw, it is quite common for a specialist to earn more than an officer of the same age early in their career.Originally posted by nightzip:hmm...to me, its better to convert to officer.
