Good move imo. SAF soldiers are, after all, highly trained in all aspects of Sai Gang. You might say that sai gang is our forte; few countries can hope to match our vast experience in doing sai gang. Look for SAF soldiers to shine in this operation. They'll do our country proud.
Seriously though - SAF soldiers need all the experience they can get. I would rather they help Clear dead bodies, distribute aid, help in the clean up operation than bitch in the bunk about book out timing. Of coz this is coming from an NS man....
O yes,and i think it would do those pussies some good to see some dead bodies and actual devastation for a change. After all we are traning for war and devastation (dead bodies included) and war is mutually inclusive. -
ok, if my guess is correct, the soldiers who are going over to help should be from one of the SCE coz' the cyber pioneer link mentioned about a team of engineers. most likely plant operators, field engineers and amphibious teams

weel, i agree with him about what the ideal army should be about, but unlike him, i am not deludud. General or no, that cock is overraching himself there and soundbites like that is not doing him any good. He comes across as a pencil pusher there.
Anyway, such work is infinitely more worthwhile and useful in terms of operational efficiency than providing free labour in the NDP. How about xfering the manpower involved in the NDP to help out in this great disaster? Surely our annual self congratulatory jerk-off fest is not more important than the 100000 dead bodies that need to be collected?
However, i do note that the countries may not welcome such large numbers of foreign soldiers on their soil. So the above argument is based on ana assumption that we are more than welcome.
Edit: Good luck to all our soldiers there. Try not to screw up. Esp our MOs. Woe be to the patient who is treated by our tekong standard MOs. -
i think its better to send a small team first, if need be, den move in a bigger team.
You can't just dump a battalion of soldiers there and let them start piling bodies. Its chaotic there, and trying to coordinate relief efforts is not easy wif poor comms.
Even the food n supplies we sent there, they are facing the problem of distributing them, b'cos areas worst hit r inaccessible to large vehicles. -
No matter what, it is only right that we send help to help those in needs..Sending the Army is the best form of help every country can offer..U can't expect countries to send untrain civilians to do the job right??
By sending our troops over there shows that Singaporean still cares right..Thats is something very good.. -

As regards your assertion of chaos dues to "poor comms", i'll have you know that our military is more than capable of handling the comms issue. What do you think our army uses during exercises? Handphone? (OK - Some of us do use handphones). We are more than capable of handling the situation.
The SAF is a well-oiled Sai Gang machine. It is claimed that our soldiers receive the latest in technology and the best training that can safely be conducted. Now we have an opportunity to put our skills to use, not for the purposes of war, but as part of a great humanitarian effort. Why are we holding back?
As we speak bodies are rottiing. Someone may be breathing their last breaths. People are going hungry. These are our neighbours and our allies. We are morally obligated to help them. -

But we can't just do what we want in other ppl's countries, we have to take orders frm relief teams in those countries operated by THIER own officials n UN personnel.
You dun just fly a heli n drop food everywhere -
