well.. malays are not barred from armour camps lah..i've seen malays in my camp. what about signals and combat E? got malays?Originally posted by Shadow Dancer:Just look at the canteen inside armour camps u will know. Pork/chicken served almost everyday. There is no separate halal food section cater for malays, unlike in other camps. Support battalions like armour technicians, turret technicians, weapon system technicians are ALL chinese or indians. The same goes to storemen and drivers. Malays are barred from armour camps, just for your info.
Quran states wrong for muslim to fight against muslim...Originally posted by SpecOps87:There are malay pilots. From memory, one is an F-16 fighter pilot, the other is a C-130 pilot.Anyway, sorry my muslim friends, some units there are no malays due to the sensitivity of the nature of their work.Am a chinese here, read that Malays are not allowed as the Quran states something like its wrong for a Muslim to fight against another Muslim. Thus some frontline chiong suan units do not accept muslims. So far there are malay guardsmen, infantry etc.Navy and Air Force side malays are only like 5% of the entire force make-up.
How often does one see a malay sailor or a malay air-crew right? Most are posted to SCDF.But anyway, you guys rock man!!!Together we serve the nation, not as chinese, malay, indian or eurasian, but as a true blooded Singaporean.
i agree...its the truth...and it hurts. strictly no mats. ask the army abt this if u wanna know more.Originally posted by Marco_Simone:Sad to say,it is the truth, just that no one wants to acknowledge this openly.
No mats in Commando,Armour,Pilot,weapon/electronics/communications logistics, still got where else?
Wonder why malays normally posted to SCDF or SPF?Originally posted by tiggersgd:i agree...its the truth...and it hurts. strictly no mats. ask the army abt this if u wanna know more.
cannot say like that la...gotta satisfy quota...Originally posted by gnoik:Wonder why malays normally posted to SCDF or SPF?
no actually things like this ought to be brought up more often. discussion eventually leads to change. maybe 1 or 2 generations down the road, when we're more disconnected from malaysia such restrictions would be lifted.Originally posted by sidestep1984:This is a really sensitive issue that i hope would not be brought up again(but i noe will be brought up again)
Then there is no point of me signing on the army....Originally posted by sidestep1984:no malays in armour...dont ask y
there are malays in cdo...
malays in guards...
this kind of issue...hard to say...
its onli a few decades since malays were allowed to do their ns in the army....
i'm a malay...
from wat i see..
there are 2 types of malays..
those couldnt be bothered which seems to be more..
those that wanna do the best in wat they do which seems to be the minority..
no in between one
dont think of it as racial discrimination....
there is a reason for sure that the government would not like to disclose..
u just gotta see 2 sides of the story....
i hope the next lines i say dont spark a flamewar...but this is coming from me as a malay doing my own cultural observation..
there are a majority of malays that are content with what they have and dont seem to work to gain better things
just be proud with wat u are...work hard...and prove the nay-sayers wrong...
what i think is...give the army time...sooner or later...there'd be malays in every unit...just give it time...
for now...every malay pre-enlistee, nsf or regular that reads this must understand that the better they perform now as soldiers and citizens...they would/might provide more chances for malays in the future...never let ureselves be stereotyped...
i hope nobody flames/ridicules this reply....

yeah....well...wat to do....hard to explain...hard to comprehend...but if they give the race a chance.....they wont be making any mistakes....Originally posted by fudgester:I'm Malay.
Sure, the Quran states that Muslims should never fight against Muslims.
But if the Matlanders are going to occupy this land that I was born in and kill and rape my family and friends..... I will not sit back and watch it all happening.
If anything like that happens, bring me to the chief Matlander - I'll personally shove the barrel of my SAR 21 up his a**.
Anyway, SAF is making an extremely serious mistake by barring Malays from certain formations. I personally experienced this when my sergeant told us that the Navy was looking for medics while I was taking my Combat Medic Course. When I tried to go for the talk, he said that they would never consider me.
When I asked why, he said: "What I am supposed to tell you is that naval bases don't have Muslim cookhouses. What I am not supposed to tell you is that they would never allow Malays into the Navy."
When I heard that, I got super-disillusioned. I always looked down on Malaysia for having policies which discriminated against the Chinese and the Indians and always felt proud that this was not the case in Singapore. Now - sheesh..... I find myself questioning, why should I fight and die for a government that doesn't trust me?
In the end, I told myself, I will fight and die for my family and friends and all those whom I care about. To heck with Ah Long, Ah Tong and Ah Yew aka The Three Tuatows.
Actually, I also agree with what you said earlier. There are two types of malays, where the majority are slackers who are too easily contented with what they have and the minority are the hardworking ones who do their best and strive for the best.Originally posted by sidestep1984:yeah....well...wat to do....hard to explain...hard to comprehend...but if they give the race a chance.....they wont be making any mistakes....
to hell with those who dont work hard...makes the rest look bad...Originally posted by fudgester:Actually, I also agree with what you said earlier. I suppose part of the blame has to go to the Malay majority for portraying themselves as slackers. The plain and simple truth is that Malays are generally slackers. That's probably part of the reason why the Government doesn't trust us enough to helm navy ships or drive SM-1 tanks.
I'm just stating a fact. The statistics don't lie. Malays are generally the most underperforming race of all when it comes to academic performance. I remember touching on this in another forum - something to do about racial discrimination in Singapore.
Still, this in no way excuses the attitudes of the SAF with regards to Malays..... it makes the word 'meritocracy' sound hollow and hypocritical.
The results ARE the statistics. Just take a look at the results of the major examinations. Malays are always at the bottom when the different races are compared.Originally posted by lwflee:That the statistics show that malays are more likely to undeperform is irrelevant imo. IF you are gg to base your criteria on ability, there are exam results available.
Right now, they have an absolute ban on Muslims/Malays (which?).
consider infantry or guards loh.Originally posted by SerialBox:Then there is no point of me signing on the army....
