Sign On: Worth It? Wise? Outside No Good Job Prospect? How?

  sorry if this question has been asked before..im a diploma holder..can any1 describe the job scope of a Senior tech?and how much is the salary?is it a shift job or 9 to five job?i heard som1 mention that it is the most normal job the saf has to offer.

  If not, I would suggest to hold your houses and think clearly whether you are really intending to stay in that profession for at least 6 years, something like your MTOE (Min. Term of Engagement). Pls give a thought, as I've personally witnessed personnel who sign on w/o a single thought, and end up regretting and doing stupid things, so much so that LOWs can be served to them to LEAVE the army.....oh yea.

  I'm not from the Air Force, so pray tell what you mean by Senior Technician?In the Army, they have positions like Armament Master Technicians or Comms Master Technicians..IF you are referring to something on these lines, then I'm sorry to tell you that such levels are only acheived at the SSG-MSG and above rank.How can a diploma bring you that high up when you've only signed on...?

  Thanks for the enlightenment.Guys, apparently the RSAF has different definitions of what Senior Techs are.

  U will probably be like a supervisor, cause many of the technicians in RSAF are actually outsourced from Sg Technologies Aerospace.
  
  I guess the job can be considered slack lah, always see the techicians go for kopi breaks
  
  Last time when i was still in NS I always see ST technicians working in shifts, but the sign-ons work 9-5 most of the time, except when there's OT or emergency or exercise.
  
  Your jobscope will also depend very much on which squadron you are attached to. Obviously those attached to fighter squadrons will have a tougher time.

  hours you keep folows the sqn's flying schedule.... your job is mainly before and after flying.. so during the day you may seem to be rather slack... a lot of canteen break...
  
  anyway.. most of the tech job now outsourced to ST aerospace.

  oh... is there a possbility that i will be posted to other countries if a sign as senior tech?btw, i notice the pay is quite low..$1745..i tot air force offer the highest pay in saf?

  senior tech's quite a common job anyway.
