There was a recent high profile case where a newly comissioned 2LT was stripped of his rank and he became a PTE, my friend, who was also one of those fresh-out-of-OCS-young-punk-officer, told me that it's most likely that he will serve only 2 years of NS, as opposed to his liability of 2 years 4 months.
Apparently when you are demoted or have been to DB, you are condemned, never to have a promotion, in his case, to CPL.
Oh, and someone asked whats the highest ranking officer ever spotted in DB?
There's this guy in my office just came out of DB 2 months ago, who told me that he came across one MAJ, one LTA and a warrant officer. -
Oh yeah, and just to share this stupid thought I had about being condemned after being in DB: when I was still a PTE, I ever thought of commiting some stupid offence to go DB for 7 days.
Work out the maths, 7 days of DB means I won't be promoted to CPL, which means I 'save' myself 4 extra months!

Yes, they can be sentenced to go DB too but very troublesome. I remember my senior medic complaining once because they sent one female to DB for a week. corrections. female do get to go DB. for personal reasons sometimes they go awol. particularly those with a lot of problems with husband bf type. those kind surely go awol.
met one case the husband take knife into camp and wanna tok her. in the end we confine her permanantly in camp and she can only go out when escorted by someone else.
and the reason why u almost nvr see commission offr in DB is bcos we will strip them of their rank b4 they go in. so they would be known as pte lcp cpl and so on.
there will be no major no wo no rank above lta who would retain rank and go DB. SAF will chooes to discharge dishonourable rather then to send them to DB. cos discharge is considered a more serious punishment cf to DB.
there was a case of a wo omolesting some nsf. mindef legal service wanna strip him of rank and throw him in DB. but defending offr argue that discharge more serious punishment. in the end. no DB just discharge. move was endorsed by the upper crabs ppl and the defending offr was a trained lawyer

ppl awol are just dumb.....which is happen to my recourse case right nw....june suppose to be ord....then sprained leg mc...then come back...mc again then awol.......just pure dumb......somemore now gonna have long service award.....been in service for 4.5yrs liao.......pure dumb....
