what does SIB represent anywaes?I know its Singapore Infantry Brigade..but wat does it represent in terms of numbers compared to a regiment??
Regiment - a "family" of similar units, based on history, training, type, ceremony, etc, etc.
For example - the Royal Malay Regiment (Malaysia) - consist of a few infantry, mechanised infantry and airborne infantry battalions. Similar because all members in this regiment are Malays. The battalions in this regiment are in turn distributed and assigned to operational brigades.
Brigade - consists of 3-5 battalions in its operational formation.
For example - the 10th Airborne Brigade (RDF) (Malaysia), is composed of 2 airborne infantry battalions from the Royal Malay Regiment, and 1 airborne infantry battalion from the Royal Ranger Regiment. (The brigade consists of battalions from 2 different regiments)
SIR - Singapore Infantry Regiment - represents all infantry battalions in Singapore. For example - the formal name is actually 1st battalion, Singapore Infantry Regiment, and so on. We don't really bother with regiments. Also, in Singapore, brigades consists of same units - all infantry, all guards, all armoured and so on. You don't find a brigade consisting of a wide mixture of battalions, like some other countries.
