If a recce trooper has real pride in his abilities, he does not need to show it through his jungle hat. That would only cheapen his contribution to the cause.Look at it this way, why is the black beret and the red beret only sold in selected camps whereas the jungle hats are sold in every camp?Think about it man, it is a utility thing. And lastly, I and many others resent the fact that we as part of logistics and service are called Rear Echelon M*therF*ckers. If you think you can work alone, go ahead.Sometimes it's just not worth doing the support task for ingrates like you who place the professional integrity of a whole vocation on a single headdress, and in the same breath degrade those who are non-combatants in the Army.Originally posted by mfscrewu:It might be a hat and no big deal only to you, but to others who went through the training, it is a symbol of their hard training.
What I really can't stand is that really slacked off REMFs (Rear Echelon Mother F.uckers) even get to wear it when all they do is just sit around the rear.
The jungle hat to those who are authorised to wear are akin to the different beret colours of different units.
Based on your argument, for example, is it justified for any tom dick and harry who is not CDO trained to wear the red beret? Just like a CDO who is not in an armour unit cannot wear the black beret.
For the recce trooper, there is no official badge which is given to them in recognition of their training and operational status, and hence to them, the jungle hat is considered as their symbol of their status.
Yeah, that really gets my goat. FFS, our guys weren't allowed to wear the CDO T-shirt until we finished BCT - even then, it was strictly for wear in barracks, not on the street.Originally posted by sidestep1984:aiyah..same like outside arh...like some people wear

but never earned the right to wear the clothing...
Damn straight, Lordz - too many of the combat side guys forget that without logistics everything grinds to a halt.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Sometimes it's just not worth doing the support task for ingrates like you who place the professional integrity of a whole vocation on a single headdress, and in the same breath degrade those who are non-combatants in the Army.
My coy people only get to wear it after they turned ops. For me, I only had the luxury of wearing it during my COCC.Originally posted by Gedanken:Yeah, that really gets my goat. the previous post regarding the wearing of CDO tshirts, JCC polo ts really got me laughing man, its like those kids who used to wear the SAF New Balance shoes and they didn't a yr older than a poly student....Originally posted by Gedanken:Yeah, that really gets my goat. Anyway, a while back I was having drinks at New Asia Bar with a couple of the Force Line boys, and in walks this kid with a CDO T-shirt. I walked up to him and asked what company he was from. He laughed and said that a friend had given it to him. I leaned over and suggested that there were a few people present who would not take kindly to that, and by that time my buddies were looking in our direction. He forgot the $25 cover charge he paid 5 minutes before and disappeared. Smart kid.
As for the jungle hat issue, I'm not too fussed myself. My headgear of choice was a sweat rag, preferably plain olive green.
In that case, same goes for other troopers such as CDO or guards, if they too have real pride in his abilities, they too have no need to show it through their beret colours.
For your info, we do work alone. When I was in the unit, there was hardly any logistical support at all. My coy did everything ourselves. From maintaining motorbikes to rations. During exercises, supplies we requested were on the low priority list. So there you go, that's where my resentment comes in. You can have your resentment, I can have mine.Originally posted by LazerLordz:And lastly, I and many others resent the fact that we as part of logistics and service are called Rear Echelon M*therF*ckers. If you think you can work alone, go ahead.Sometimes it's just not worth doing the support task for ingrates like you who place the professional integrity of a whole vocation on a single headdress, and in the same breath degrade those who are non-combatants in the Army.
haha.. what a joker.. as though anyone would bother if he's a guardsman or not.Originally posted by bcoy:My own experience is with this one guy, and it was 4 years after we finished our NS. I happened to join this local company and bump this guy, "Ran" who seemed to look familar. He had been going around telling people in the office that he was a Guardsman, and so on. One fine day, I confronted "Ran" by asking the battalion, batch and company he came from - and his replies were the exact battalion, batch and company I served in. I told him about it - and he started to panic. Apparently, "Ran" did his BMT in the same Guards unit but was posted out before the Guards course.
Didn't earn his beret and tag and he admitted this fact to me - when I tried talking about the exercises and missions we went on. I didn't have to say a single word after that.
So wide spread were his stories, that I bump into another colleage serving in a signals unit supporting our brigade in reserves, he asked about "Ran" (of course no where to be seen) during our ICTs, and I had to explain the truth to him.
My point here - why the need to lie about something he never experienced, years after completing NS? Its been 13 years since NS, i wouldn't be surprise if "Ran" is still at it.

Or was he trying to impress some girl in the office? Some girls are quite susceptible to being impressed by military stuff..

Well, I have to admit that logistics do screw up and we all have our problems.Let's just try to get along and we shall agree to disagree.Originally posted by mfscrewu:For your info, we do work alone. here is what wuming ge refer to as the "so-called condom hat".Originally posted by wuming78:my csm and rsm told me that jungle hats were supposed to be worn by recce trained personnel only, not even for JCC trained people like me.
anyway not sure if you all are refering to the SAF issued jungle hat (the so-called condom hat) or the one that recce personnel wears (the nicer, more shape one).
i guess its up to the unit and how strict it is with such things. not sure if there is written regulations with regard to jungle hats - my guess is no. but anyway i still wont usually wear it, out of respect for the recce trained.![]()

I wonder if they booked out in vest slack or they deliberately dressed like that from home.. Either way, this just goes on to show a total lack of discipline on the part of the individual.Originally posted by gnoik:I cant stand anyone wearing the OCS polo shirt or singlet.. some worse..wearing their unit polo shirt with slacks and shopping with their gf..![]()
I still wear the blue and white No Balance for running sometimes. Quite crummy already, but its well-seasoned and really comfortable.Originally posted by cornyfish2000:I wonder if they booked out in vest slack or they deliberately dressed like that from home.. Personally now that i'm back to civilian life, the only SAF item i wear now is my old pair of New Balance shoes when i go jogging, the one that was issued when i enlisted back in '00 (the white with blue New Balance patches on the sides).
Was quite amused at AOH '04 when a PTI showed that shoe model to me as one of the relics from the army's past..
Oh, so now they've even replaced the red and white NB shoes?Originally posted by Zooish:I still wear the blue and white No Balance for running sometimes. Quite crummy already, but its well-seasoned and really comfortable.
I've collected the SAF running shoe series, from the blue and white NB, to the yellow and white NB, red and white NB and the new Brooks.
Heard there was a limited edition Mizuno one that i didn't get
I'm also guilty of wearing the white RSAF polo tee to run errands sometimes![]()
