First you have to be an officer (duh!)Originally posted by firewizard:wht it takes to be one? any training?
erm.. not a strict limit, more of a gauge, usually around 1.75m or so. They dun want too tall or too short, makes the contingent look uneven.Originally posted by firewizard:any height limit??
Wonder how the flag bearer can tahan? His hand not aching meh when holding the flag at 90 degreesOriginally posted by cornyfish2000:He's usually the youngest and most junior (hence usually a 2LT) officer in the unit.. and of course, he can't be too short.![]()

Have a friend participate in the SAF parade and National Day Parade only a Local rank 2SGOriginally posted by gnoik:Wonder how the flag bearer can tahan? That's what the training is for. For parades like SAF day and NDP, training starts months in advance to slowly build up endurance. Actually the toughest part is probably getting the colour back to rusoh position after hormat. A lot of ppl slip during that part.Originally posted by gnoik:Wonder how the flag bearer can tahan? Fainting will earn him 21 extras...Originally posted by Zooish:That's what the training is for. For parades like SAF day and NDP, training starts months in advance to slowly build up endurance. Anyway, the colour ensign lan lan must keep the colour up. If colour falls and hits the ground, the ensign can be charged. Dunno if my RSM trying to scare us or what, but he said fainting in a parade is also a chargeable offence.![]()

But isn't that person supposed to be just the Colours escort?Originally posted by palmerised:isn't that the reason as to why they have the extra person at the back of the bearer so that if the bearer were to faint for some reason, the backup can take the flag from him.
the person holding the flag must and can only be officer.Originally posted by tarutaru:The colour contingent don't have to be an officer....height I not sure. Have a friend participate in the SAF parade and National Day Parade only a Local rank 2SG
The Commissioned officer is the Colours Ensign...Originally posted by s|nNeD:the person holding the flag must and can only be officer.
the specialist behind is the colour ensign.
The person behind is 'escorting' the colours because he is carrying arms. That is his official duty/purpose.Originally posted by palmerised:isn't that the reason as to why they have the extra person at the back of the bearer so that if the bearer were to faint for some reason, the backup can take the flag from him.
