The ranks of servicemen in the uniformed services of the Singapore Armed Forces, in order of seniority, shall be as follows:

dun think so, but 4 Star hotel have, and have something called 5 star matress

he was "promoted" to the rank of Major General (MG) during his tenure there. -
The total force we can mobilise is equal to a US Army Corp, currently headed by a Lt-Gen.

he was "promoted" to the rank of Major General (MG) during his tenure there. -
the numbers of stars a general can get is determine by the strength of the force he command. the bigger he command he higher he can go.
for a small country like singapore. a 3 stars general is more then enough.

dun think sgp will have a 4 star general...

technically speaking, if singapore can amass the strength of 1 army group, a 4 star general will emerge. (1 army group = 3-4 armies; 1 army=3-4 divisions; etc)
and 3 army groups will need a 5 star general to command.
as said by gordonator, singapore does not have an army large enough for us to give someone more than 3 stars.
i know there are countries where the overall army chief is ONLY a colonel!! people here should know...
and like wise in China etc, they can even afford 6-stars generals....
so anyone knows what the name of 4,5,6 star generals????
1 star: brigadier gen
2 star: major gen
3 star: lieutenant gen
4,5,6 star????
for chinese, i know is you start from pian(1) jiang, then ban(4) jiang, shao (4) jiang, then fu(4) jiang; then jiang jun(1); da jiang jun(1) and then shang(4) jiang; yuan(2) shuai (4). but these are in computer game.

Same as the USN Lt-Cmdr rank I believe.

Don't think we'll ever have a CDF from the navy..
I think the only non-army CDF we ever had was Bey Soo Khiang, from the air force. And i believe that was the one and only time there was a non-army 3-star general in the SAF. -

if u all look closely at the ranks of generals in the SAF (provided u can get so close to him), the design is very different, the stars are like poping up. -
so what do u call a 4-star general?

Don't forget the CDF also commands the entire SAF, including air force & navy. I don't see why the CDF should not be a full general. Thailand for example as Marshall or Chief Marshall (if I am not wrong) for their air force!
One possible reason is political sensitiveness -- we need to down play our strength/rank & be humble in appearance to other countries. -
gordonator, how come the apulet of the major general is all the way up to the shoulder button?
issit because thats for the no.3 uniform while the other 2 of them is for no.4? -
